I got a used wheel pilot (same thing only for a wheel) right here on this forum, and it's been great, although it's not an "extra crew member." Or that crew member occasionally needs a padded room ... because every once in a while it goes nuts and humans have to take over. I think it is sensitive to speed -- not enough and it doesn't perform as well, and rough seas/strong currents. We can't find any other reason for it suddenly lurching to port or starboard.
