FWIW the CD25 and 25D are completely different animals. The only thing they share are lengths, they are completely different designs by different designers. The 25 is fairly easy to come by inexpensively, but the 25D is a little harder to find.

The 25D is one of the best small CD boats, I really like the interior layout vs the larger ones, but it's a harder to find and more expensive boat than the 27 and 28 are. Unless you are stuck on the 25D, you might have an easier time expanding your search to something slightly larger.

You are so right about the CD25D being much harder to find and the 27's and 28's being more plentiful. I think the 25D would be a perfect boat for an old girl like me. If you hear of a 25D available, I'd appreciate the info.

In the meantime, I'll keep the faith.........
Thanks,
Susan

The Vancouver is 1.25 feet beamier, longer waterline and much heavier. Sounds like more boat for the money.

I don't know anything about the Vancouver, but the Cape Dory 25' has a very low freeboard amidships. I always wondered what would happen if we caught a big wave to the side. the idiot who owned it didn't know to turn into the waves and swore he was almost swamped ... by a wake ... from a pleasure craft ...

And of course he thought he was God's gift to sailing ...

Re: Cape Dory 25D or Vancouver 25 Sloop

There was a Vancouver 25 for sale in FL a few weeks ago, I can't find a link to it though

They do look really nice, but I'd want to go aboard both and poke around for a while to see which I preferred. The interior space and layout on the 25D is a bit 'different', so you may find you don't like it (I prefer it).

Your best bet is probably to keep an eye on the CDSOA website classifieds, they pop up there some. I don't see them often on Craigslist or eBay, but OTOH I rarely see them pop up at all anywhere, so maybe that's why. The 25Ds also often go through brokers, so you'll see some listed on YachtWorld here and there as well. Right now the only one I know of is selling for $80k.... (search Little Yacht Sales). It seems like people buy them and keep them.

The CDSOA folks are a good resource, I'd recommend joining and asking any questions you may have. Unless there is something that appeals to you about the 25D more than the others, you might want to consider broadening your search some to other models. If you like the 25D for a specific reason then stick with it! They do pop up, they are just more expensive and harder to come by.

I live in FL. I was working on a project and did not have time to pursue a boat. I have been actively looking for 3 weeks.

While, I was on my project, a CD25D and V. 25 (cutter rigged) sold in FL. Ouch!!!!!

I can't tell you how many times I have kicked myself.

We looked at a Vancouver 25 last summer. It was a sweet boat but had some leak issues and generally was a little more work that we were up for. Really liked the interior layout, the cockpit was small.

The other good little boat in that size is the Bayfield 25.

There is a guy in northern FL selling a very nice Bayfield 25! I was soooo close to buying it but then found an excellent condition 30' Hunter for super cheap...I couldn't pass it up. Totally different boats. I still wonder if I made the right decision. The Bayfield is really about a 22-23' boat as it has a long bowsprit.

Slightly off topic for the request, but the Ariel is very very similar. Here is a nice example with a new Beta deisel in it.

Sirocco A-205 is for sale

There is an extensive history of the boat available on the owners association site, she is a nice little ship.

The other roomy good little boat is the Falmouth 22 Channel cutter.

Re: Cape Dory 25D or Vancouver 25 Sloop

I've got a UK-built V27 and love it. Very well-built and capable.

It looks like there's a V25 for sale in Charleston, SC:
1985 Vancouver Vancouver 25 - Boats.com

I like the interior layout and the 6'2" headroom. This one also has a new Yanmar 2GM.

Maybe a Pacific Seacraft 25 as an option too?
