Re: Bluewater Circumnavigation Capable Sailboat 50K

Hello again,

Here's another proven option;

1977 jeanneau Gin Fizz sailboat for sale in Florida

and the same fully equipped;

1978 Jeanneau Gin-Fizz sailboat for sale in South Carolina

The type was good enough for Laura Dekker and she's now sweet sixteen and went to school so prices may ease a bit.
Reviews;
Jeanneau Gin Fizz 37 Review : Bluewaterboats.org

and forgive me my ignorance but what is a lake/bay boat?

have you looked at Island packets?yeah I know not center cockpits but not a bad boat.also look out for Hallberg Rassy 352's.

Intriguing case you have here!

Cheers,
JJ

Re: Bluewater Circumnavigation Capable Sailboat 50K

No aft stateroom, but a I know of a Corbin 39 for sale and probably pretty cheap. I just purchased a mooring from the daughter of the owner (who is going senile). She still had the boat when I last talked to her.

Re: Bluewater Circumnavigation Capable Sailboat 50K

OP:

"Probably not interested in a Beneteau as I don't believe they are proven enough for bluewater passage making."

Actually, the Beneteau Idylle series are probably at least as proven as the Islander 36 that interests you.. If you poke around you will find a number of knowledgable people who will tell you that Beneteau built much better boats in the early 80's than they have since and that the Idylle series in particular were very well built.

I know of a sistership to my boat that crossed the Pacific, from SoCal to Australia, singlehanded by an Aussie named Hedley Thomas.. There are a number of Beneteaus cruising around the world, some by CF members.

Beneteau went to full mass production some time after the early eighties, and apparently build quality suffered a bit. But my 1984 boat was very well built and I would not hesitate to go offshore with it.

Re: Bluewater Circumnavigation Capable Sailboat 50K

I bought my boat, which had been a floating office for the PO for 8 years,

The only thing it was missing was an electric anchor winch,

Then I sailed it single handed from Fiji to Australia,

It had all the bells and whistles and then some,

They are out there, But extremely rare,

But I must admit, This one was a unique find, And I was more than happy with it,
Many Kudo's to the PO.

Hi,

My brother is selling a nice Ericson 39 in Florida, offshore design that can circumnavigate. Has most everything you listed, except center cockpit and aft cabin, but does have two pilot berths, etc. New Powersurvivor 40 desalinator, great engine, brand new mast/boom/standing/running rig.
She is listed on Yachtworld, needs sails:

Good luck in your travels!

How about this ...1984 Nautical Development Offshore 40 Center Cockpit Sail Boat For Sale -

Seems to have most of what you're looking for and is in your area. Knock 10K off the asking price and you're getting in your price range.

Re: Bluewater Circumnavigation Capable Sailboat 50K

Great suggestions all! A few that don't have an aft stateroom, not center cockpit and that is almost a deal killer (just a personal preference).

I couldn't find a listing for the Westerly Oceanlord in CT on Yachtworld. Might have sold or been pulled from the market. I'll do some more searching when I have more time.

The Ericson 39 is close to what I am looking for but again no aft cabin. The Corbin 39 might work and I'll keep looking at those - I see one in Florida that seems to have some of the bells and whistles that I am looking for.

The Offshore 40 is also a possibility - need to figure out a time when I can make the trip to Deltaville as there are a few boats down that way I need to look at.

The Hughes 38 - Wild Card (not center cockpit) is nearly exactly what I am looking for. When I say 'ready to go' that would fit the bill. Two circumnavigations, seems to be well cared for, etc. What I am not looking for is something that is incomplete, a so-called 'project' boat (yes, all boats are projects), a boat that has been sitting on the hard for year after year and needs everything replaced.

Thanks for the continuing suggestions - some new boats on my radar screen now!
Cheers, Mike

The HR35's are a decent boat - both would take some work to outfit them properly but in the offering price perhaps there is room to make it all work. The 43' in the BVI's I may have seen from afar but didn't investigate. Definitely might work. Someone mentioned the KP44 and I looked at one in Annapolis and deemed it too big for what I need/want.

Mike
Given the many beneteaus that have circumnavigated I think you really dont understand what you are talking about.

Considering the sheer number made there have probably been more circumnavigated than any other manufacturer.
