Re: Weather Routing

The GSHHG basemap resolution is WAY too low to detect stuff as a rock or a lighthouse. You may use the draw plugin to define exclusion zones and avoid these isolated dangers.

Re: Weather Routing

New beta version of weather-routing_pi for Opencpn v4.2.0-v4.8.8 is available and is working.
https://github.com/rgleason/weather_...tag/v1.12ibeta

This compiles did-g's changes and improvements which seem to fix the compile problems were were having.

It incorporates Did-g Merge pull request seandepagnier#234 from did-g/json_mingw Json and mingw

Note did-g's "Grib backport" improvements are not included. The will be included when Sean merges the PR.

Please try this out and advise.

Re: Weather Routing

Dear Rick, I just installed it but it seems not to work at all.

Environment: Windows 10 1809 Build 17763.316, OpenCPN 4.8.8

After installation I want to enable the plugin and it says "The plugin Weather_routing.dll is not compatible with this version of OpenCPN, please use a newer version .... :-)

Any hints??

Thanks a lot and best regards, Uwe

Re: Weather Routing

Uwe, I just downloaded that and installed it into v4.8.8. The plugin shows as version 11 but it is 12!

It seemed to run fine for me, but I noticed that you cannot turn off Climatology unless Climatology is installed. Here is the result. Hope that will help. If there is anything else let me know. BTW I hope you are going to be able to do some testing of plugins for ov50 at some point here?

Re: Weather Routing

Hi Rick

oh yes, that was my mistake, I did not read the link you sowed in the post. That one was installable, no, I went to the "officiel" downloat site and downloaded weather_routing_pi-1.13.0-ov50-win32 THAT one does not install on my system. Is there a different thread I should use? However, I cannot use version 1.3 ov 50 .... ok??

Any hint here??

Many thanks and best regards, Uwe

Re: Weather Routing

Boy its lucky we have the "ov50" for new plugins that only work with OpenCPN 5.0 and 4.99 series! I am very happy bdbcat made it a part of the naming conventions.

If you have an ov50 it will not work in v 4.2 - 4.8.8. So as you know, don't even try it. You could start using the new beta version however.

The best thing to do is to click on the ov4 download inks for those plugins. It does make a difference you know. Generally I have tried to label those with the ov tag and any that are ov42-ov48 should work with v4.8.8

So the hint is keep an eye on the plugin name. The download link may go to the same Release Folder area, so you have to select the right plugin!

This was to make it easier for Kathi not having to change links all the time.

Re: Weather Routing

Hi Rick,

thanks a lot for your - always - prompt replies .... :-) ok, that clarifies it. Only for the "average dumb user".... when such guy (me) goes to the download sites he will not be aware, that the "ov50" indicates this is not working on 4.8.8. ....

Anyway, many thanks again and - sure, I am looking forward to 5.0 ....

All the best from Bavaria,

Uwe

Re: Weather Routing

We will all learn... ov50 means Opencpn v50 and forward.

For Windows Users, everytime the wxWidgets version changes (from wxWidgets 3.0.2 to wxWidgets 3.1.2 this time) there is a big reset and all plugins have to be recompiled with the new wxWidgets version. All plugins can be used with the version of opencpn.lib the plugin requires (Plugin API number) and forward within those wxWidgets changes.

I try to label what "ov" the plugin will work with, so keep an eye out for that and the most recent file.

What is your experience with this? Is that clear?

PS we need to get weatherfax xml s updated some time in the next month or two.

Re: Weather Routing

Hi Rick,

that is clear for me "now" .... :-) you see, sometimes it is "cheaper" to "let somebody read for you" .....

Anyway, I think I owe you something .... So, as I will be here for the next couple of weeks (unless my ship "urgently" calls me..... ) I think I can sit down and work on the XML-files. What is the problem? Are there new entries/wrong entries?? Just let me know (you have my e-mail address I guess) and I can start. OK??

All the best,

Uwe

Re: Weather Routing

Uwe, that would be great. I have to find the files I was working on and send them to you to check and modify. I had updated nearly all of the internetfax links, but had not completed it.

Today or tomorrow I will send them! Awesome offer.

Please try this out and advise.

I did a test with Climatology, Draw and WR using O488.
I downloaded a grib file with wind and current from Skiron WRF.
I have loaded many boundary created with Draw.

I was able to create 4 weather-routes either individually or by batch.

It seems to work

Re: Weather Routing

That's great Gille. There is also an ov50 version here.... that works well with Opencpn MUI4.99 climatology and grib.

Yes I now. And I now also all the version of Did-g.

Hmm ... but, I'm expecting a lot of other improvements that I've sometimes seen partially running on Did-g versions.
Everything will depend on the availability of Sean and his passion, or not, for this plugin. Will he have the time and the desire to make it progress quickly ... That is the question!
I also know that there are still some bug due to wxGADGET that are used to run OCPN and its plugins.

Re: Weather Routing

The only improvement that I know of that is not included is the Slow start and finish. I have a copy of it and tried it, but I could not seem to find out where to turn it on! Do you know where those settings are?
Thanks.
