Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

after around a week of 24/7 operation (PC feeding AIS plotting websites) Open cpn 4.8.0 (win 10 32 bit) still runs but all AIS reception seems to stop.

I reset it yesterday and will report back on findings.

regards

How are you feeding NMEA data into the PC? Is it via serial port or some other pathway?

Also, have a look at the opencpn.log file. It may reveal some hints.

I'm unable to change the font size in the status bar on windows 10 and Linux (Raspberry Pi3). I seem to remember this coming up before. Is it a regression?

Moo,

Sometimes I have to close the program and restart it for the font changes to take effect.

Thanks. I just tried that. Didn't want to earlier as I am wriggling through reefs in Fiji navigating with OCPN and satellite KAPs generated with the VF plugin mainly (awesome combination).

Anyway. When I change the status bar fonts and click OK I can see the font face change, if I have changed it, but not the size. Closing OCPN and reopening makes no difference.

Moo,

The font size can only be increased up to the point where the font would get to big for the status bar. The height of the status bar limits the maximum font size. Once you reach that size it will not get larger no matter what size you choose in the Options font size selector.

All that to say, it's not a bug, it's a feature.

I did try to reply to this before but it didn't make it

Thanks for looking into this.

I seem to remember that in a previous version that the height of the status bar would increase to accommodate font size.

The issue that I have is that on both my onboard monitors there is a lot of white space between the items on the status bar and the text is too small to read particularly on my RPI system in the cockpit.

I use the cursor position and distance and bearing to cursor a lot in pilotage. I can get around the status bar issue by making a dashboard with the required information but that uses up valuable real estate.

The status bar plugin just does not work on Windows or the RPI so that one is a non-starter. It does display a default status bar but you can't edit the content or appearance. Anybody know if this plugin has been tested with the current version of OCPN? I've tried running in administrator mode to see if that would force it to edit changes to the content appearance but no go. No error messages; just doesn't save the configuration that you select.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

On my Windows 10 machine it is the width that holds the font size down. The font size is limited so that all the text shows. And there seems to be a lot of white space so perhaps the calculation could do with a little tweak.

Moo
Just tested it on Ubuntu x 2 computers.
Results same as your last post.

"It does display a default status bar but you can't edit the content or appearance."I can turn this default status bar on/off and replace with standard one included with O package, but not able to edit.

Rick
Using status bar 0.6
When I open Options/plugins/staus bar/preferences/about author,
I get Sean's homepage.
Does he have another plugin?

Yes he has Statusbar_pi
https://github.com/seandepagnier/statusbar_pi

and
https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/plugins/statusbar.html
which shows what it does.

https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...face:statusbar
Which is blank and needs to be written.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

Hi Dave,

I would like to report a problem on the way that version 4.8 handle S57 ENC corrections. It could be he worst in compare to earlier versions such as 4.4 and 3.2.2.
I am use the same set of offical S57 ENC from the port authority. Version 3.2.2 and 4.4 display avialable information properly while 3.2.2 report a in-completion of data. The 4.4 simply subsitue the missing piece with dummies. Version 4.8 also report in-completion. The different is it displays nothing more than the original chart without any corrections, does not mattered it is good or bad.
A section of the logfile logging how 4.4, 4.8 and 3.2.2 is attched for your reference. Screen captures also submitted for your information. The way that 4.8 used in handling S57 ENC chart corrections could be the worst one. It does not help a naviagtor at all. There became no information whatsoever. In such a case, that is simular to have no ENC with the use of 4.8.
I have to revert to ealier version to get as much information as possible.

Best regards,
Bruce

Bruce....

Sorry, no logfile attached...

Also, the images look about the same to me.
What specifically is the difference in the images?

Thanks
Dave
