Hi Matt,
If I understand you correctly, you should try to check the "Preserve scale when switching charts" checkbox down on the "Etc." tab in the toolbox

Have a look at: ToolBox -> Etc. -> GUI Options, Preserve scale when switching charts
Maybe this is the option you are looking for.

Can you describe this a little bit more precisely, please.
What charts do you have installed?
And what Zoom value is shown in the Status Bar?
Quilting on/off?
If you use Vector charts, do you have the "Use SCAMIN" (ToolBox -> Vector Charts) feature enabled?
Or at least a screenshot (or two) helps to clarify things?

Grib display control with 607a

hello,

When he opens himself, I can not re-close it because the button "Closed" is invisible at the bottom of the screnn.

Is it possible to reduce the height by the window ?

Best regards,

Gilletarom.
Using 210-607a, now I have this : see screen shot.

It is better.

Why is this even so high, with a useless space at the bottom ?

Best regards

Gilletarom

Pavel, Gunther- yes, thank you for the tip, I thought it might be something obvious like that... (embarrassed....)

Unfortunately, the last time I tried to start OpenCPN, I clicked the "settings" button before it had completed the startup sequence, so the log now looks like:
Code:
13:37:55: 2010-06-07
13:37:55: -------Starting opencpn-------
13:37:55: Version 2.1.0 Build RC606a

Then, where it should reach
Code:
Initializing Chart C:\Users\Matthew\Downloads\Charts\USA\01CGD_ENCs\ENC_ROOT\US4ME50M\US4ME50M.000
I instead get Win7 saying "Opencpn.exe has stopped working...."
Using NOAA S-57 and BSB charts.
I will try restoring the settings files from this morning's backup....
(edit- restoring old settings and using RC607a executable works)

re. zooming: I'm finding that at times (no pattern ascertained so far), attempting to zoom out with either the scroll wheel or toolbar button results in a lock-up (see attached- this should show the entire Atlantic Ocean). Switching quilting off, then on (or on, then off) usually restores the chart.

as I don't know the code of OCPN a programmer possibly could tell you what's the reason ... !
But to me it looks like there is something wrong with your opencpn.ini!
Try the following:
  • Uninstall OpenCPN
(start the unins000.exe in the OpenCPN program directory)
  • Check if the settings dir has also been deleted
    type
    Code:
    %APPDATA%
in the Adressbar of the Explorer
this should bring you to your ...\AppData\Roaming directory where there normally is the \opencpn data directory
If it is still present, delete it
  • Re-install OpenCPN (latest Beta from http://opencpn.org/downloads/beta/opencpn_210_setup.exe)
So you should have a new and clean install.
OpenCPN should inform you that there are no chart files available/ configured yet on the first start. Now go to the ToolBox and configure everything. Maybe you start only with one chart(dir) and add the others step by step. Doing so you can observe if maybe a special chart file is the cause for your trouble.

Good luck,
Gunther

Rasterization rules update

Hi guys,
I've just made another (probably last pre 2.1.0) update to the rasterization rules. If you want to help, please test them on a place you know so they can be included in the final version. This time no big changes - there are updates to a couple of buoys and the work on land-based symbols (TOWERS and BCNLAT) was started.

Download here: Secure source code hosting and collaborative development - GitHub - take S52RAZDS.RLE from the archive and replace the one you have installed.
The detailed changelog here: Commit History for nohal's RleData - GitHub

Dave

Sometimes when starting Opencpn I get the dialog about libgps mismatch, stating that I only have version 0.0 but requires at least 3.1! It is not a show stopper, and obviously wrong. Everything still seems to work, as far as I have noted so far.

Quilting

Hi Dave,

Just installed 607a and still find quilting turns off if I switch between CM93 and raster, and then back to CM93.

Not a major, but it would nice if it stayed turned on - it seems to only turn off if the raster chart I switch to covers less than the whole screen area i.e. is a chart that covers a smaller geographic area than the area I had displayed in CM93-quilting seems to turn off when that smaller area chart is displayed

Cheers..
David

Hi. I have an Asus eee 1005HA (debian OS) and I have the same problem with many programs. I think the issue is that most programs assume that the screen is taller than 600 pixels, as most screens have been since at least 1995.

The only generic fix I found is to make all the font sizes smaller (around 8).

But it could be good if OpenCPN detecs the actual screen height and adapts.

I agree! Netbooks, tablets etc are very attractive options for nav systems for many, often their screens are smaller than the norm, and can have different aspect ratios. It would be excellent if OpenCPN could have the option to either detect, or have declared a screen size in pixels, and adapt the display to suit.

One interesting point..the old CMap ecs config has you actually measure the screen in cm as well, and adjusted chart scales so that you could measure a distance on the screen with a real ruler or dividers!

KiwiRadical....

Hi, thanks for the comments.

opencpn will switch from quilt to single chart mode if the target bsb chart is skewed or is not in a Mercator projection.

Does this match the behavior you see?

Thanks

Cagney/Thomas....

Do I understand that when you get the message

"dialog about libgps mismatch, stating that I only have version 0.0 but requires at least 3.1"

that libgps works anyway for this run?

In other words, the only failure is that the library call to read the version number returns 0,0?

Odd...

Yes, it's a transverse Mercator projection LINZ chart.... I wasn't awake to that :-(
