Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1731 Released

sailorF54...

On the hi load CPU hangups:
Are you actually moving the mouse, zooming, etc. when it hangs?

By the way, the OpenGL texture cache options have no effect on vector charts. They apply only to raster charts.

Thanks
Dave

And only with the S63 pi activated? You underlined "quilting" as well...

Hi Dave

FWIW
Note that I have only large scale charts. So the display is quite sluggish when panning and zooming when I view these charts at small scale (see pic) (on account of the huge number of objects to be drawn ?). Enabling /disabling Scamin does not make much difference
I have just noticed that when the system 'hangs', I can still use the task manager to 'reduce' the app (sorry back translating from French, see pic)
and the CPU usage immediately drops down to a small value

I could be just swamping the OpenGl manager because of the lack of large scale chart

sailorF54...

I think I see the problem with the hi CPU load on vector charts.
Can you build from source? If not, please wait a few days for another official Beta.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1731 Released

Hello testers...

I am debugging a crash dump report from some user located near Montagne de la Clare, France, I think. This user is using cm93, and some photo overlay charts. That's all I know of the user identity.

I need to see an upload of the chart "agc101_1.KAP". This chart is corrupt, and causes an OCPN crash. I want to detect the corruption at run time, and eliminate the crash.

If you have this chart, please post here for analysis.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1731 Released

Problem: toolbar vanishes once grib plugin is enabled. Version 3.3.1731 Build 2014-05-31 wxWidgets version: wxWidgets 2.8.12 Linux (arch, fairly current) /usr/local/lib/opencpn/libgrib_pi.so API Version detected: 107 PlugIn Version detected: 202 To replicate: Start O. Activate the grib plugin. Close O. Reopen O. Toolbar window is now behind main window and not visible. To get it to refocus I can drag the main window onto another desktop leaving the toolbar behind and then deactivate the grib plugin in the options dialog. After closing and reopening O the toolbar is back where it belongs. I can also make the toolbar come back by editing opencpn.conf and setting the enabled flag for the grib plugin to 0. Any ideas what I can do to help further debug this? There is no crash and no anomalous entries in the log. Any flags I can mess with? Best Pete

Pete...
What desktop environment are you using? As most of the problems of this type, I'm unable to reproduce (On LMDE with Cinnamon, which at the other hand has it's own toolbar focus related problems)...

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1731 Released

Gilletarom...

I am looking at this request from you:

Code:
Is it possible to prevent OpenCPN attempting to load Nv-Verlag charts as the NV-Verlag plugin is not enabled?
Maybe I do not understand the request.

1. I start from zero. No charts directories loaded, NVC PlugIn disabled.
2. I load the directory with NV Verlag charts (.EAP). Of course, they do not display. Oops, I forgot to enable the NVC PLugIn, so...
3. I enable the NVC PlugIn. Still no display.
4. So, I rebuild database. And voila, they display fine.

Is this your experience? Or something different?

Thanks
Dave

Regarding:

Code:
- Both French and English labels when selecting fonts (see pic). Only French labels are active with French locale.
May I see your config file, please?

Thanks

Dear Dave and Pavel: Same thing happens with Dashboard and the same remedy fixes it. DE/WM is OpenBox. Thank you. Pete

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1731 Released

Pavel

Thank you for the prod into looking at the window manager.

I solved the problem by adding this to the openbox rc.xml file:

<application title="ocpnToolbarDialog">
<layer>above</layer>
</application>

In case anybody else has this problem, this addition forces openbox to place the Toolbar on top of the main window.

Thank you for the help. I know this doesn't fix the underlying issue but it makes the problem go away in openbox at least.

Best

Pete

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1731 Released

Hello Dave,

Just an idea ...

The "Display" tab contains very different from each other items. For example, "Use graphic accelerated (OpenGL)" is very different "look-ahead mode". The first PC, the second concerns the user.

They should be grouped into two or three zones with different securities area. By example :

PC options:
- Use graphic accelerated (OpenGL)
- Enable touchscreen / tablet interface
- Enable graphis responsive interface
- Smooth panning / zooming

Display options:
- Run up mode
- Run up mode display update period (sec)
- Show skewed raster charts as north-up
- Look ahead fashion
- Show grid
- Show deph units
- Show chart outlines
- When switching Preserve scale charts
- Enable chart quilting
- Disable full screen quilting
- Zoom to cursor
- Show magnetic bearings and headings
- Assume magnetic varition, deg

This approach does not change the functioning of OpenCPN. The effect is purely visual.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1731 Released

Hello Dave,

Options, first tab:

There is an item that is useless for me. This is the "Zoom to cursor". Indeed, I have no mouse, and my screen is not "touschscreen". I only use the touchpad ASUS EeePC my 1015.

But I understand that serve other users. Maybe in the first tab, should it be grouped nearby the two items regarding touscreen and tablets.
