Open CPN for IPad ?

Was looking at open CPN and didn't see any reference to its use on an IPad. Is there a plan to develop it for the IPad?

Thanks.

Re: Open CPN for IPad ?

OpenCPN depends on wxWidgets libraries and there is no working port of wxWidgets for iOS actually. iOS is the operating system for iPad and iPhone. So there is no chance to port OpenCPN to iPad at the moment.

Re: Open CPN for IPad ?

Thanks. Was thinking of open CPN as back up to my Simrad nss7. Will have to use clumsy pc lap top to do so. Thanks for the response.

You can take any Win Tablet as well.
Anything between 100 and 1000+ bucks....

Or experiment with rooted Androids (Linux) or the Alpha Android port.

So a lot to choose from - with exception of iOS gadgets.

Can you clarify?

I think there is a Simrad App that does just that. Why use Open CPN if you already have Simrad?

It should already be possible with less effort than already done to make android possible. The wxqt port supports android, ios and all other platforms qt supports. It won't happen unless someone works on it though.

Why not just use inavx or nobletec on your ipad. They are free apps and all you do is buy the charts for around 50 dollars.

Re: Open CPN for IPad ?

I've been using SeaIQ for awhile now and consider it "OCPN on an iPad". It can use the CM93 charts, and just about any other chart formats you already purchased and have - including ones you make yourself. It has automatic Google Earth download, Grib requests and overlays, AIS, NMEA data over WiFi, instrument dashboard, Active Captain and lots of other goodies. I'm really impressed with it - the ability to use my own existing charts (like OCPN) is the killer.

Re: Open CPN for IPad ?

Barnakiel, is the app you're referring to the Go Free app? If so you use a wireless net to link your IPad to the ness 7 as a remote control device and screen. If your nss7 should frap, you have no back up.....I believe. A back up would be independent of the gps unit....would it not?

Re: Open CPN for IPad ?

Colemj,
SeaIQ sounds promising . I don't understand/am not familiar with the chart acronyms, but will google them to get savvy. Thanks.

Ps. You are correct about not needing a canopy for the first jump, but I'm sure glad I had one....two actually.

I know it can be done. The reason I cannot is I would need a mac to be able to develop for ios.

The next wall is that Apple never accepts such a software in the app-store and so it cannot be installed on iPads.
