o charts on debian (not raspberry)

Trying to install liboesenc on Debian 9 (stretch) running on a Thinkpad. I've compiled and built liboesenc_pi.so (couldnt find anything other than a pi version) and moved it to the plugins directory. I've also manually edited the configuration file to enable the plugin but. OpenCPN does not recognise it. The log shows error - undefined symbol: _ZNK10wxCurlBase7GetInfoE8CURLINFOz. I'm guessing that this has something to do with being a pi version.

Anybody got any ideas.

Thanks.

Re: o charts on debian (not raspberry)

The DEBs may be either installed from the PPA directly or downloaded from https://launchpad.net/~opencpn/+arch...-archive-extra (You do not say if your system is 32 or 64bit, so I can't tell if you need the i386 or amd64 version, what you sure do not want is the armhf one)

You do not say what OpenCPN you are using, but I suppose not built on the same system as the plugin, so it might be pretty understandable that there may be missing symbols.

It sure has nothing to do with "being a pi version", if by that you mean "Being an ARMHF binary for Raspberry PI", as it is not the case - the "_pi" in the name means "plugin" and is an obligatory part of the name for al the OpenCPN plugin libraries on all the platforms.

Re: o charts on debian (not raspberry)

Thanks for that. I completely removed OpenCPN, enabled the Xenial repository, reinstalled OpenCPN and installed oesenc_pi from the .deb. Still no sign od oesenc in the plugins menu and still the same error in the log. Everything is amd64.

Any ideas?

Update - I removed the version installed from the .deb and installed through synaptic. Still no joy.

pessimist...

Is this the oesenc package you are installing?

https://launchpad.net/~bdbcat/+archi...ial1_amd64.deb

If not, which one?

Thanks
Dave

And which version of OpenCPN are you running? Just to double-check...

Re: o charts on debian (not raspberry)

4.99 is pre-beta actually.

4.8.. plug-ins will not work with this versions.

You will need a correspondent plug-in. All plug-ins have to been build for 4.99 explicitly as some dependencies are modified.

Or take the existing stable 4.8.8 versions to start with.

Ah, thanks. That would explain it. Is there a repository/ppa to install 4.8 or do I need to build from scratch. Using Debian 9.7.

Thanks again

Re: o charts on debian (not raspberry)

Sorted! Entirely my fault. I'd left a copy of opencpn in usr/local/lib, preumably from when I'd built from source. This was 4.99. Removed this, purged the apt cache and reinstalled both OpenCPN and the plugin from the Xenial ppa.

Thanks and apologies,

Colin
