Navico RADAR Plugin Optimization

Tested last version on Intel I7 with NVIDIA Geforce display adapter, Windows 10
- crash after a few seconds
- immediate crash when dragging chart
- radar only display rotated +90 degrees

Runs without shader on netbook, radar only display rotated 90 degrees.

It is not crashing on Ubuntu Linux.

Could it be related to this problem in Opencpn?:
"Correct NMEA Checksum checking logic for virtual datastreams."

It looks like no checksum is appended to the heading sent by the plugin:

Guys, I want to say what a great job on the new Plugin version 1.3!! (available here opencpn-navico-radar-plugin.github.io)
For a year or more now my 3G would not show an image at range settings of under a mile. Now it is all working again :-), right down to 50m.
One question though - is the height setting in installation meters, feet, what?
Great new options in this version, this plugin is really functional now, thanks again!

The hight setting is in meters.
And actually are there, at least for me, new preferences for the 3G type. Also there we can use settings for hight, (as you've noticed) scan speed and others. The scan speed is only active on ranges less the one or half a NM, don't remember the correct value, the "fast" setting will increase the rotation speed nearly twice.

Hi Matt,

Nice to hear you are happy with it, it was a major job.
As Hakan says, these are meters, independent of the range units set in preferences. To avoid confusion we can add the "m" to the menu in a next update.
And indeed, do set the antenna height, it really influences the image.

I now have a 4G to install, I believe the 2x rotation speed is used for a dual screen radar function with their displays, what else is it good for? -Better resolution while using juice? Looking forward to using this radar with the optimizations too...

No not really, the increased scan speed is when there is a need for faster updates in close ranges. For example when you're in a harbour and lot of things happening close around you.

Guys, I have one further suggestion for the next update. An install position (like for the GPS antenna), to allow for the offset from the GPS antenna. Not an issue except at really short range, but if the range is only 50m, then a difference of 5-10 meters is noticeable.
