MY CHARTS DO NOT SHOW UP?

Suddenly none of my .kap and other charts are showing up??
Only the chart outlines are showing when selected.
They have not altered location and resetting/reloading them does not work.
Are there any new switches in OpenCPN I have to set?
The usual chart selection bar at the bottom no longer shows?
I use ver. 4.8.6

Appreciate advice..

Re: MY CHARTS DO NOT SHOW UP?

I changed to v. 4 and I was only able to display the charts in quilting modus.

Changed back to v. 4.8.6 and can only display the beige coloured vector charts.??

I have not made any changes in the map locations. Are there any outside facilities required to display .kap charts?

Thanks for any ideas..

Re: MY CHARTS DO NOT SHOW UP?

Rebuild the chart data base and in case you are using chart groups, check a) which you are using and b) try to delete them and compose them from start.

. kap raster files are working as always. Nothing additional required.

Re: MY CHARTS DO NOT SHOW UP?

That would be a real problem if it happened while cruising or if lightening did a number on my plotter. This is probably a good reason to carry paper charts and a small battery powered hand held satellite GPS nav. unit. Since I have had the experience of loss of electronic Nav. I have been glad that I always carry paper and the sat units.

Hi. Exactly what I did. Now I only see the basic, beige coloured vector charts.

Also reinstalled OCPN... I have used this installation for years without any problems. All of a sudden, no .kap charts display.

I ask again, if any underlying program is required in order for OCPN to display .kap charts. I mean, is it 100% stand-alone?

Thanks

Re: MY CHARTS DO NOT SHOW UP?

Sinbad,

you will know that OpenCPN does not require any other plug-in etc. to present BSB3/.kap files. This is just basic.

Can we see a screen shot? Are you using chart groups, yes or no?

And a screen shot of your chart directory tab at Options|Charts perhaps.

Cagney. HI. Can´t seem to find the opencpn.log file. Where is it located?

none of the files opencpn.log and opencpn.ini are located in the main opencpn directory.??

Re: MY CHARTS DO NOT SHOW UP?

All in order now folks. I deleted the present OCPN and installed afresh.
Strange though, I specified installation directory as PROGRAM FILES but it ended up in PROGRAM ARCHIVE (86) and there are no .log or .ini files

Thanks for your help

Re: MY CHARTS DO NOT SHOW UP?

Tore,

Click the ? on the OpenCPN menu. The click "Copy Log file to clipboard". Then open a Notepad and paste the file into it. Save it then attach to email.

Sinbad,

the location of the log and configuration you will see at "help", the "?" button.

Since several generations of OpenCPN these are not placed with the executables, separating data from code.

In the case of Windows they are located by omission at ...\programdata\opencpn
\programdata is a Windows system directory and might be hidden in the standard settings of the Windows File Explorer.

Re: MY CHARTS DO NOT SHOW UP?

HIJACK:
I am new to OCPN. I have deleted and re-downloaded three times so far. I even brought my laptop (W10) to my not-stupid son's for help. Both he and I have been able to load a number of charts to the extent that we can see the red rectangular outlines of each chart, but no amount of zooming reveals the chart itself, except for one ENC chart which performs as expected.

I have relied on Navionics, iNavx and Aquamaps to date, but I want to work with OCPN when I upgrade to a Big Boat and head out on the Excellent Adventure. What am I missing?
