Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Hello Delatbabel,

I noted with interest that you resume development LogBook_Konni plugin.

We, Konni and I exchanged dozens and dozens of emails throughout the period of development of its plugins. I pointed him many bug and especially I realized many of the translations into French language files of two plugins. Another French sailor had assisted us: EdelVoilier. We worked in tandem to these translations. I had finally pass the hand to EdelVoilier for the translations of the two plugins.

I've updated this Sunday, the items on the crowdin. But I alerted EdelVoilier, this re-birth. If he wishes to to regain control on those plugins, I let him gladly.

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Hmm ... I do have ideas. And I will propose below.

But above all, remember that I spend my time saying that OpenCPN is too complicated. And it's the same with plugins.

Already Konni time, I told him. But nothing to do, it was enough that a user asks him to add something, and like all "enthusiast geek," he hurried to add what he was told.

Yesterday I presented OpenCPN, in public, at the Paris Boat Show, at the stand of a French forum. A listener asked to present the logbook plugin. The reaction was the same as mine "It's too complicated !"

So, hopefully I will not trigger the anger of OpenCPN gurus, here's my main idea.

This plugin should be separated into two plugins, one for sailboats, one for motorboat.

I know it's easier said than done. And as I am not able to develop, I would be better to keep quiet.

Best regards, Gilletarom.

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Gilletarom,
splitting into a sailboat and a motorboat version is not sufficient. Most sailingboats also have an engine.
A complete rewrite is needed to make it easier to use. Look at Logbook 3.5 pictures e.g. http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post1692894
and at 2K Yachting: Nautical Software - The Digital Logbook for Mac, Windows and iPad Tab: "More Info".

Just saying "a complete rewrite" without expressing any opinion as to what you think should be achieved by that rewrite isn't actually helpful. Apart from the logbook you point to being a different colour, I can't see any significant advantages that it has over logbook-konni.

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

I have relative wind speed and direction and true wind speed and direction in the dashboard plugin, but no wind data in the logbook. How do I get these data in the logbook automatically.

Regards, Lars

Hi Lars,

Can you capture the relevant data from your NMEA input stream please?

In OpenCPN -> Options -> Connections check the box marked "Show NMEA Debug Window". Get me about 5 seconds of output from that window and paste it here, I will take a look.

Thanks,

Del

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Hi Dell,

I will get the information tonight when I get to my boat. I was just wondering, because I get the information into the dashboard plugin and can see it there. Why does it not show up in the logbook?

Regards, Lars

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Lars,

At this moment logbook only looks at NMEA sentence MWV, while the dashboard also looks at VWT and VWR sentences. So it is possible that dashboard will see wind info that logbook will not see.

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

I have been storing various Nmea file recordings in
Opencpn Beta File Thingie rguser rgpass
for the purpose of testing by users.
These files will be found under the NMEA directory..
I have named the files as appropriately as possible based on data.
May I suggest use of Hartmut's file?
Harmut-Netherlands-Markermeer-Wind-AIS.zip 5mb.
or Konni Wind-Ais.zip?

By the way, there is another useful directory for Weatherfax testing files.
If anyone has recorded other NMEA files please send them or give me a link to Dropbox or google drive, so I can put them in the repos. Thanks.

Actually VWR and VWT are not supported in Logbook.
To implement these borrow the files vwr.hpp, vwr.cpp, vwt.hpp and vwt.cpp from Dashboard and enhance the function Logbook::SetSentence() in Logbook.cpp as well as in other places in the sources.

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Bear with me again please guys. I've seen some pull requests but this virus doesn't seem to want to let go. I will get the changes included and a new build out once I'm back on my feet again.

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

I think the logbook is able to do what OpenCPN was able to do long before the time Konni has stopped developing. You are left with version 1.1 but Konni came to the 1975 release.
Since version 1.1, Dave and the other developers who have spoken, have added new NMEA sentences.
Just do with Dave, where we stand on this. Site web page OpenCPNorg had been updated on this.

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Logbook Konni has features Opencpn does not.. including nmea history. May be very useful for development of polars etc.
