Re: GoodAnchorage.com Plugin – Alpha Release

For those who tested and contributed to GA plug-in, thank you. Unfortunately, due to some questionable behavior by Good Anchorage founders I had to pull out of the project and shut down the site.

Re: GoodAnchorage.com Plugin – Alpha Release

So the website is just shut down? A perfectly reasonable website and plugin that is working and providing good service to cruisers who have all contributed information and time to build it?

What a huge dis-service to everyone who spent time nurturing and supporting it! You think you can just shut it down with that explanation? I think you and Dietmar should look at the bigger picture here. I don't know why the service can't be pulled back together.

Quite honestly, I don't understand why this happened, but it must have something to do with money, expectations and unclear agreements. Why it would have gotten to this point of hiring lawyers at great expense is beyond me.

What an unfortunate thing to have happen!

Are you shutting the website down as a part of some power play, Skipper Web? ..after attacking Dietmar with lawyers? I am pretty disgusted.

Excellent question. I wondered the same for the last year.

This is a joke, right? I realize that legal language is confusing, but you must be able to understand the difference between "Plaintiff" and "Defendant".

Re: GoodAnchorage.com Plugin – Alpha Release

Ok, So who has shut down the website and why? That seems like a pretty useless thing to do.

Perhaps this is temporary.

Re: GoodAnchorage.com Plugin – Alpha Release

Dietmar,
Can you explain what is going on with the website, etc. please?
It is no longer working, however the DNS and Nameservers are still running and the goodanchorage.com website passes many tests.

Rick,

Read the court decision. It answers all your questions.

Re: GoodAnchorage.com Plugin – Alpha Release

OK TDan, I now see that is a newer document.
http://www.goodanchoragelawsuit.com/GA_Decision.pdf

I guess I had it about right... "must have something to do with money, expectations and unclear agreements." Lawyers that write sloppy and ambivalent contracts and actors that do not follow through lead to big trouble.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rescission
unmaking of a contract between parties.[1] Rescission is the unwinding of a transaction. This is done to bring the parties, as far as possible, back to the position in which they were before they entered into a contract (the status quo ante).

Here is a case where the sum is greater than the parts for sure, but the parties probably do not trust each other at all, so the website and the code longer going have an opportunity to work together.

Also what part does the OpenSoftware OpenCPN Plugin play in this?
I know Sean was in Vanuatu and also worked on the Open Source plugin.
The company would not have rights to that in any case, and it now has no right to any of the software developed.

So the data has been separated from the the software = no website or access by OpenCPN.

Too bad for Contributors and Users.

Re: GoodAnchorage.com Plugin – Alpha Release

In conclusion. Goodanchorage is gone. Shouldn't we be deleting it from the manual and removing the plugin since the website no longer exists?

Yes, and perhaps asking a moderator to close the thread.
