Free Android OpenCPN new download location. OpenCPNce help needed.

I used my rights and published a free version of OpenCPN on the Play Store and got under heavy fire from many ignorant people for that (to use your guerrilla war analogies). If you have a personal issue with that, feel free to ignore me.

That's exactly what's about: backed by "legal", "my rights" one does not debate but tries to nail down.
You did not answer my first point. Or perhaps now you did: "I am entitled to step down on others with legal titles in my hand". Not interested to clear issues.

Your position is not practical. Just a demonstration of being the bearer of a higher morality. Something that does not add anything to OCPN. Or anything to other projects but your idea about yourself. Poison for any project.

Quack quack quack. Nothing wrong with that. Since build scripts are missing in the source, this was the most elegant way to build a free, GPL-compliant package.

Elegant? Probably a matter of personal perception. Would you mind to upgrade the package to include the changes in the current codebase? In case your package is still 4.1.915 as you state in the description it contains a few annoying bugs in my code which I don't like being available in the wild for an unnecessary amount of time. But of course, you don't have to, just to be clear.

BTW, if you chose a less "elegant" solution and actually did the build, you would a) probably know what you distribute and b) Would not have to use quack and STFU as your arguments because less people would actually have the feeling that what you do is not kosher and "bother" you...

But I think according to Dave on his forum, Google's action to fully enforcre the GPLv2 and require that Dave remove all Android OpenCPN additional licencing code, if he wishes to destribue GPLv2 code,

COMPLETELY VINDICATES Yens brave decision to distribute a completely free of charge Open Source version of OpenCPN Android.

Well done Yens. You have kept OpenCPN Free and Open.

Champ8242, I think to suppress this would be wrong. There are good arguments to each side.

I haven't tried either Android version as yet, but will soon and it will probably be the paid version. For such a great sailing tool, with support, it's a small price to pay. I might download the free version first to see what it's like before committing (I object to the Google 15 minute money back deal).

On the other hand, the licensing rules were bent. It took a small number of vocal posters to take action and the result is now licence compliance.

So now we have a choice to get it free, without support, and an uncertain upgrade future. Or we can pay and get support with updates as they are released.

Champ....as a programing troglodyte, I find this discussion very interesting and quite revealing.

I really do appreciate the efforts of all those developers... but the passion of this fuzzy logic reminds me of a bar girl's marketing plan

Viewing and basic communication is offered for free, but often enhanced by a voluntary purchase of drinks.

The professional plan offers full access and most importantly, technical support, which if the product was really up to spec......would not be needed.

It appears that the oldest and newest professions, have a lot in common..
