Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

I just tried typing (no cut & paste) the new coordinates and same result; after clicking OK then going back into the waypoint profile both LAT and LON had reverted back to original values.

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

I was able to copy and paste the coordinates for one of the entries in the table your referenced. Clicked OK, then opened the properties window - evrything seems to work fine.
What level of OpenCPN are you using?

Delete the long value and paste in this value >> -76.19634

Click OK to close the waypoints properties window.

Does your waypoint not update doing that?
I tried it even with a waypoint in an active route and it worked.

[Edit: you got there first - Which version of Opencpn are you on? Is it windows?]

There's always a way

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

did exactly as suggested - still did not work - still reverted to previous LAT and LON. Open CPN ver 5 running on macbook pro with El Capitan ver 10.11.6. What's weird is that I've used this software for 2 years now and this is the first time this has happened. Have there been recent updates to Open CPN that might have caused this issue? I did just update to 5.0 maybe a month ago

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

Anyone else using a Mac that can check if we are dealing with a Mac specific issue?

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

Now it's getting really weird! I just created a new waypoint (new name, etc) and entered the LAT and LON manually - guess what - changed to 42° 55.0254' N and 074° 08.4468' W (I manually entered 42.91709 and 074.14078.

What are your settings in Options->Display->Units->Lat/Long ?

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

There may be something about the way you are copying and pasting the values that OpenCPN does not like. Possibly you are picking up some extraneous characters (HTML?) in you copy. Can you create a set of screen captures showing the process you are going through. For example:
1. The wpt property form before you change the lat/lon
2. After you've pasted the new values, but not clicked OK
3. After you've clicked OK and re-opened the properties form

Also, try just typing the lat lon into the form. Does it take then? If so there likely is a problem with the pasted value.

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

I've been testing Win10 ov50, the waypoint Copy Lat/Long and Paste Lat/Long also copy and paste in singles with each of the options > units > DD, DM, DMS selected and I am finding that the conversions and interoperability is significantly better than it was in 4.8.8!

I think onus is on rnmon to provide a step by step example showing his unit settings and the values/operation he has trouble with. The website he shows at the beginning is also inaccessible right now. It may very well be a MacOS issue, but we need a benchmark from rnumon. imho.

Then a second mac user can test. I am going to see if aedan will do it.

aedan is not mac, so we need some other Mac user to try it.

What setting do you have for Options > Units ?

That is what is happening! I think you need to work on this a little to understand it. PS Cagney wrote the same thing to you.

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

I’ve provided the step-by-step actions for each example along with the software versions I’m using. Specifically, what settings would you like?

I believe it is a user bug. See responses below.

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

Try setting the option to decimal degrees and try copy/paste again. Not sure that will show anything, but I'm out of suggestions. Maybe one other thing - is there a simple (non-formatting) text editor on the Mac, like MS Notebook on a PC. If you paste the value into that text editor, maybe you will see if there are extraneous characters in the pasted value.

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

One more real wild ass attempt. When you paste the new value into wpt form, click the tab key to force the cursor to the next textbox. Sometimes that is the only way to notify the software that the value has changed.

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

JSTEVENS you are my hero!! Changed the setting to decimal degrees did the trick!! Have no idea how that variable might have gotten changed (if it changed), but was able to update Lat and Long and it did not revert back. Thank you so very much!! I have an entire set of waypoints and routes I've worked on for about 18 months to do the Great Loop and it would have been horrible if all that work became unreliable / unusable Thank you!!
