CHARTCONVERTER

Here is the latest version of Chart Convert. Much quicker than past versions and can now also handle large .png bitmaps. All you need is to calibrate the map in MapCal, Chartconverter does the rest. It also reverse converts .kap maps. If you don't have the 7z de-compressor,you can download it for free from the web.

Get it here:

Chartcal-V19

Hi all,

after a lot of spare time spent in calibrating maps, I'm sending you the first version of CHARTCAL that covers the whole New Zealand Nautical Charts Portfolio: counting maps and plans it is composed of 320 charts.

Please download KapGen beta05 (if you don't have already) available at MCE66 - Software for MAP building. This new Chartcal.dir is available also at the above link as individual download.

Refer also to this Chart Images site for help in chart numbering. If you have built maps with older chartcals, please rebuild NZ24.

This is the time to test the charts. I invite you to try to build maps and tell me how they work. There is this post (#109) if you want to buld all the maps. Maps should work in OpenCPN and in SeaClear (but maybe work also in some other SW).

This is not the final version. I'm going to double check the charts in next days and then I'll release a newer version later on (opening a specific thread in this forum). So build maps mainly for testing (if you just want the maps, wait a few days).

Let me know about errors, suggestions, etc.

Ciao, Marco.

Fantastic work Marco, you should add your findings on the OpenCPN wiki as well

I'm sure that all of the chart guru's are aware of this Organization but thought I'd post it anyway.

Large area maps are now being produced by OpenSeaMap for download.
Very useful for planning and grib weather forecasts. Major lights and sea marks will be added at a later date.

1. The German/Danish North Sea
2. The Mediterranean
3. The Mexico Gulf
4. The Caribbean

Hi sinbad,
I downloaded it and added the directory containing it to openCPN charts paths, but openCPN will not display it.

Anders..

Very strange,,it's running fine here on both OpenCPN as well as SeaClear.
If you have SeaClear, try it there..

Do you have other charts in the directory you put The Geman/Danish North Sea?

Tore

P.S. I just downloaded it and it runs fine on both. Must be your directory.

Nope, nothing else.

I zoomed out a lot, and found a map of the medeterranian sea though. Are there more downloads maybe?

Tore,
Thanks :-)
That one works, after renaming it so that there are no spaces in the file name

One thing that I miss in CM93 charts are a few details on land when zoomed out, like harbours, cities and such. Let us hope that OSEAM keeps evolving.

Can you tell me the steps used for creating the maps?

Hi..

First you need a bitmap in .png
Then you need Map Cal from SeaClear to calibrate your map.
And finally you need Chartconvert.

Download Chartconvert

You also need a few other utilities shown on the start page of Chartconvert.

Place the files in 'mc2bsbh' directory (chart.png + CHARTCAL.CIR)
and start Chartconvert which will produce your new chart.kap file

There will be lots of more OpenSeaChart conversions available from a Source Forge directory after a while.
