Which was the last beta version without this problem?

Thomas
Well, after re-doing a new installation, I believe the problem is when converting from meters to feet, in case someone wants to use them in feet. If you do the installations in feet, it krash, in meters is seems to go through.
Check this and that could be the case.

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Pierre...

I have two ideas:

1. Maybe it is a particular chart trouble. Perhaps you could send me a copy of
Can_PS-05_Lac Ontario Anticosti_2006\CA479020.000 ?

2. Or, maybe there is some trouble with French characters in directory name. Perhaps you could try to rename the directory
Can_PS-05_Lac Ontario Anticosti_2006 and remove special character, which here is black "?". Then try rebuild database, and check again. This will give us some clue.

Thanks
Dave

Can you explain me how you did find it, in case i have the same thing with other ENC charts? I will check further to see if the same is happening. You were absolutely correct. I replace the chart with and older one and things are OK. Ther might be others too.
Thanks for your help.

Pierre...

I look at the logfile. Starting from the bottom of the file, moving up, you will see the last "chart open" entry, such as:

Code:
3:22:44 PM: Initializing Chart C:\Charts_Vector\Charts_Canada_Vector_ENC-S57\Can_PS-05_Lac Ontario Anticosti_2006\CA479020.000
If the crash happens before another chart is opened, then this must be the bad chart.

I would very much like to see a copy of the bad chart(s). It should be better not to krash, but to simply report error on chart attempted load. Please send some bad charts to my email address, and I will investigate.

Thanks
Dave

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Hi there.

I am just trying to recompie my dev system having merged 3.0.0 into a local branch based on 2.5.0. It is complaining that it cannot find wxWidgets, I have 2.8.10 installed, does it require 2.9?

Thanks

Jon

Re: Beta Test / Technical

I'm using the latest beta 3.1.814 as a portable on XP.so I thought I'd best post it here, not knowing if it is a particular problem of this beta
I'm having a problem with chart groups.
If I create my First Chart group and add a folder with a collection of charts, (No Transverse, Poly, or unquiltable charts) it works as expected, showing only the charts in the group, otherwise the default map background.

...so now I want to add a Second Chart group with different charts. First, though, I must add those charts to the overall group "Active Charts". I do, and I refresh chart database yada yada...ok, done! These all appear as Active charts...however they are also mixed in the First Chart Group....

Moving on,
I continue to create the second group using just the added charts..and IT works! No mixups

but of course the First group is corrupted...I don't want those damn Transverse mercators there!

added. Quilting on off makes no diff. Not getting much from the log... though I'm still looking...(and I see a distracting problem with WMM plugin!)
Code:

Re: Beta Test / Technical

aargh. Solved. Less directory depth that seems to fix it...I moved the 2nd group folders "closer" to root D: , rebuilt the 2nd chart group and now all is ok. ....
weirdly, the log shows the same "depth" as far as "..\..\ "etc. goes
6:28:53 PM: Initializing Chart ..\..\..\..\00Backup_CHARTS_POLY+TM\ChartsPolyconi c+UTM\UTM\352601.KAP

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Thought I'd give Open CPN a try again after a number of unsuccessful tries in the past. This is surely a very worthwhile project but there is one issue that makes this program unusable, at least on my computers. The chart file handling programming has major issues. It has crashed my computer repeatedly in the various beta versions I've tried. Two obvious problems are that it buries the needle on RAM memory and leaves the computer in a "blank stare" condition. The other is the excessive and unacceptable amount of time it takes to "ingest" chart files. There must be a better way to handle/convert chart files. I primarily use Sailcruiser (NavSim) software, Garmin chartplotter products and have tried Polar Navy, and SeaClearII. None of these programs have this kind of issue. They find the raster or vector files, quickly convert them and store them for subsequent access. Hope this helps those who are developing the program and are kindly spending their time to help us all out.

Bug report?

When I try to delete all waypoints, the program crashes and I have to force quit and re-start the program.

I am using Version 3.0.2 Build 2012-07-07 on a Mac.

Just how many waypoints would that be?

Please publish your opencpn.log file.

Rename the file opencpn.log.doc before uploading to this forum!

Re: Beta Test / Technical

About 150 waypoints.

The "Logfile" instructions are for Windows, which I don't have. I can't find an opencpn.log file.
