Re: Beta Test / Technical

I took 3.2.2 for a live drive and got some weird results.

The active track ran for near on 2 hours which is correct.
It says the average speed was 136 knots (record breaking)
Distance covered 254 nautical miles (I must have been dreaming)

This was a 2 hour trip covering 11.5 N miles with stops
Attached 2 screen shots of multiple track lines that should only be single.
Also track file.

I did notice the satellites display in the dashboard showing that all sats had been lost all at once, this happened every couple of minutes

I had 2 sources of GPS connected 1 at priority 9 the other coming from AIS on priority 8 via UDP from another computer.

OS
Main comp ubuntu 12.04 64bits O 3.2.2
Backup ubuntu 12.04 32bits O 3.2.0

I didn't notice any problems with the backup comp

Do I need to raise this as a new thread??

Re: Beta Test / Technical

I had similair issues on earlier versions of O. Never figured out what was the reason for these record breaking numbers. To me it seems it has to do with the gps data.

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Hi
I've fetched the source for 3.3.424 and the function "Show AIS target name" is incorporated. Many thanks, much appreciated.
But when build a release in VS 10 I get the following Win32 error: (Translated by me)
Windows message:
Code:

The program couldn’t start due to CrashRpt140.dll was not found. Maybe if you reinstall the program?
The last two rows from VS10 debug window:
Code:
Debugger:: An unhandled non-continuable STATUS_DLL_NOT_FOUND exception was thrown during process load
The program '[3304] opencpn.exe: Native' has exited with code -1073741515 (0xc0000135).
Debug works rather good and was running. (Some more or less hidden breakpoint showed up)
Any suggestions?
Thanks Håkan

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Hakan...
As the error you get suggests, just copy CrashRpt140.dll from buildwin\crashrpt\ to the directory where your opencpn.exe resides (should be build\Release)

Could not get the interfaces to work. Finally did a complete de-installation and an installlation of a 2.4 version. NMEA via comports worked fine again. Do not know where the error is. Under 3.2 I did not get any NMEA stream data though the same comport settings under 2.4 gave full info on OCPN. Any ideas?

Oops quick answer, Thanks
Ok I copied that and also next file "he" asked for "Crashsender.exe. That helped but I don't recognise this from earlier versions?
Now I got the release to run but it can't find language files even if I've the directory "C:\Builds\OpenCPN\opencpn3.3.424\build\share\loca le" is present.
And S57 charts are not loaded although "C:\Builds\OpenCPN\opencpn3.3.424\build\s57dat a" files is there as well. Is anything changed in this version when talking about directories?

And.. When the release eventually produced the .exe file and I tried it in the Opencpn running directory, c:\program\opencpn\ it was again asking for the "CrashRpt1401.dll"

Hakan...

Until we have released the next Beta with Crash Reporting fully supported, you may save yourself (and Pavel) lots of trouble by temporarily changing CmakeLists.txt as follows to disable Crash Reporting.

Code:
#Enable CrashReporting for Windows
IF(WIN32)
# ADD_DEFINITIONS(-DOCPN_USE_CRASHRPT)
# INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES(${CMAKE_SOURCE_DIR}/buildwin/crashrpt)
# SET(EXTRA_LIBS ${EXTRA_LIBS} ${CMAKE_SOURCE_DIR}/buildwin/crashrpt/CrashRpt1401.lib)
# SET(CMAKE_EXE_LINKER_FLAGS /DEBUG)
ENDIF(WIN32)
Good Luck
Dave

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Hi Guys,

Not sure if this is the right place, but I'll raise it anyhow. Firstly I have to say I love OpenCPN with a passion, it just fits well with my philosophy of what should be available on a cruising yacht at a reasonable price.

Now for the question: The GPS input contains two data streams of interest, position and UTC time. Why is the UTC time not shown on the display anywhere? It would be fairly handy to have a reference for setting the PC to new timezones. I know this is often available on other devices like VHF radio but it's not entirely convenient to look there.

Hope this suggestion can be implemented sometime.

Rob...
UTC time from the NMEA stream is shown by the Clock instrument in the dashboard plugin.

Question: Will Sean's Watchman and Weather_routing, which use Plugin API 1.10 be able to run if this is done?

Additional Observation regarding copying crashrpt1401.dll to :
If you do not do as bdcat suggests above, and instead follow Pavel's suggestion, to "copy crashrpt1401.dll to the directory where your opencpn.exe resides..." (when using Opencpn, copy to the main directory, OR when using MSVC, copy to the "build" directory) you may also want to add several other files that may be needed crashrpt_lang.ini, crashsender1401.exe, dbghelp.dll and privacypolicy.txt may be of interest. These were determined from from a make file (if I remember correctly).

In MSVC these files come from the ...\opencpn-git\buildwin\crashrpt directory.

Dave.. (Long time since I found a harbour with Internet.) Many thanks there was accordingly a change. Very good.
I followed your advices and both debug and release was now fine. I'll test this pre-beta a couple of days.

For the "ShowAISName" I have a personal view:
Text position: Let me suggest the following instead to slightly shrink the distance from the target:
Code:
In chcanv.cpp around row 4284:
                    if ( ( td->COG > 90 ) && ( td->COG < 180 ) )
                        dc.DrawText( tgt_name, TargetPoint.x+8, TargetPoint.y-1.1*h ); //Hakan org: x+10 y-h
                    else
                        dc.DrawText( tgt_name, TargetPoint.x+8, TargetPoint.y+0.2*h ); //Hakan org: x+10 y+0.5*h

Hakan...
The font is configurable in Toolbox->User Interface - In Fonts, select "AIS Target Name" and set the font you like.

Pavel... Yes I discovered that one minute after my posting and quickly edited my post to destroy all traces. But you was again quick as a bite of a snake.
Many thanks/Håkan
