Amphenol wiring

I have been using OpenCPN for a couple years and now intend to install GRadar. Can anyone explain why the photo I found on the forum does not seem to agree with the Amphenol spec sheet for pin 5? Has the adapter been updated since the photo? Thanks.

wefleenor....

Looks like the same part to me. Maybe just an inverted (component-side) graphic is used in the spec?

Re: Amphenol wiring

The drawing definitely shows the 5 pin in the upper row while the picture looks as though the wire is connected to the lower row.

wefleenor...

The wire is connected to the lower row.
Would not be the first time that a spec drawing is just wrong.

Get the part and check it out with an ohm-meter....
Or make a F-F patch cable. Either way, we will help you get it to work.

Dave,

I checked the part with a VOM and the Amphenol drawing is correct and not the picture showing the connection. You are suggesting that I definitely ground pin 5? Thanks.

Bill...

We (you, me, or Amphenol) must be counting from the other end of the connector, or something like that.

The photo you have with the red wire attached to the lower row definitely works. That is a photo of the unit I have installed and use frequently on my own boat.

Re: Amphenol wiring

I think it would be a great idea if whoever has access to these plugin instructions included the photo above.

In my case, the confusion stemmed from the fact that the garmin HD18 installation instructions (and other sources on the web) identify the brown wire as pin #8 (which would make the schematics above correct and the photo incorrect).

Other than that, the plugin works like a charm. Kudos to the opencpn folks!
