Need Help

I need help or advice from anyone out there that can help. I live in texas and have a 1960 classic alden 44 foot mahogony wood yawl 1960 in California. The boat is in need of a lot of work and as such we had to get an in-water survey to get liability insurance to keep her in our marina in Vallejo, Ca. The insurance companies do not want to insure her because of all the work that needs to be done and if I do not have insurance I cannot keep her in a marina. I dont know what to do and if anyone has any ideas, please reply or email me at perkins_wayne@yahoo.com. Thank You

Re: Need Help

I am surprised you were turned down for a liability only policy. Maybe try another insurance company.

If you can't get liability insurance then the only option I see is to have the boat hauled.

Re: Need Help

Sereno,

See if you can get liability only, or temporary coverage while being refit. Some insurance companies will offer this.

Re: Need Help

Wood Boat - Strike 1
Wood Boat that needs a lot of work - Strike 2
Owner lives out of State - Strike 3
Over 30 Years Old - Strike 4

You have very limited options with old wood boats, and please do not take the advise of someone else and store a wood boat on the hard. First, make sure you are calling agents in CA, not Texas, even if they can write in CA.

First, what are your ultimate plans for the boat? What part of Texas do you live and how long do you plan to live there? What condition is the hull in per the survey? Is the boat documented, or does it have CF numbers on it? Do you have family who lives in CA?
