Satellite Collision

It would seem that a collision between two satellites would be about as far removed from sailing and cruising as it could be - unless one of the satellites were a GPS satellite or Iridium Satellite.
In this case it was an Iridium satellite that collided with a spent Russian satellite and was destroyed. Iridium states that there could possibly be some minor communications problems from that accident:

SPACE.com -- U.S. Satellite Destroyed in Space Collision

"Iridium Satellite LLC confirmed today that one of its satellites was destroyed Tuesday in an unprecedented collision with a spent Russian satellite and that the incident could result in limited disruptions of service."

I think it not likely that anyone will be much inconvenienced by this but it was interesting.
