Radar Pole Mount

I am thinking of mounting an eight to nine foot radar pole on the aft deck area of my Beneteau. The pole would sit on the deck combing attached to the stern rail with a Garhauer standoff mount.

My question is using life line or 3/16 1x19 wire and turn buckles to brace the pole, one running awarth ship and one running toward the toe rail forward of the pole, both wires would be attached to the pole about 5 feet off the deck,

How would this compare to using the normal 1" stainless tubing for stabilizing the pole.

Thanks

Fletch

Re: Radar Pole Mount

I see no reason brace the pole with anything but the pulpit standoff. My mounting uses only the pulpit for bracing and I have had no problems.
I also use the outboard motor lift off the same Garhauer pole.

Re: Radar Pole Mount

Just for radar I don't think you need to brace the pole. But the pole might do better on the deck with a backing plate rather than on the coaming.

Re: Radar Pole Mount

I have a similar setup where my radar pole goes through the deck starboard side and is secured inside a stern locker and at the deck where it goes through. No bracing form the pulpit, no wires, its basically freestanding.
