Furuno Fax30

I'm looking for first hand experience with Fax30.
1. How reliable is the reception (compared e.g. to SSB+PC)?
2. I will be installing on a small (30') boat, so I can't have 15m long wire antenna. Can I do without the active coupler?
3. Do I have to use Furuno preamp antenna? What type of connector is on the antenna
4. What's the quality of data received?
5. Any interesting experience? Good and bad?
Many thanks
