Autohelm st4000 "no data"

I have a autohelm st4000 and the last time I used it I got the message no data when I went to auto pilot. I believe this is an issue with the compass communications to the instrument. I looked at the wires attached to the instrument and all look ok. I looked at the compass and opened it and again no corrosion.
First is this the problem. Second, if so is there a way to test the compass to verify?

Re: Autohelm st4000 "no data"

I am still having problems with my ST4000, receiving a No Data when I hit the Auto button. I replaced the fluxgate compass transducer with the new electronics. Hit auto and still receive No Data.
It could be the new out of the box is bad, but probably not.
I am having a service guy come out and inspect and ne said that the control head gets data from the Sea Talk connection.
I thought the Raymarine Auto Pilot was a stand alone system. And it depended on the fluxgate compass transducer for data. I have the system hooked up to sea talk, but did not think it communicated. I thought that only came into use when you have a chart plotter attached.
Am I wrong?

Re: Autohelm st4000 "no data"

You can get heading data over sea talk or direct from the fluxgate compass. Most ST4000 are set up so you get the heading info from a fluxgate compass (5 wires going to the back of the ST4000 head). You are correct that the "no data" is a heading error.

Re: Autohelm st4000 "no data"

My st4000 control head looks to be bad. Does the ST6001 and ST6002 replace the control head on the ST400o+?
If I get the ST 6002, can I just plug it in with the existing fluxgate compass and have my autopilot back.
Thanks Dave sv Aloisius

Re: Autohelm st4000 "no data"

NO. The 4000 is a combined display and computer. The 6000 series are just displays and need a separate computer. Not interchangeable.

Send me a PM about repair.
