When someone on this forum or SN has mentioned they'll be in San Francisco, I've offered to take them sailing. I've met a number of really nice people that way, some single sailors and others with their spouses. It's super cool to know the person behind the avatar. That said, I'm always up for a raft up, too, if someone else organizes it

Mine Sail for electrical & boating stuff.

Dockhead for Course to Steer across the English Channel, and navigational know-how..

I doubt I could cruise with anyone long term but for a short cruise to somewhere I think hanging out with Dockhead would be an absolute hoot. Loads of experience, great stories, and witty to boot. He is quite a character from what I see. Former member Bob Perry would be another choice to talk about dogs and boat design; even better if he was on galley duty, from what i understand.

I suppose my true first choice would be one of our women forum goers but naming such I feel would be in bad taste and perhaps a little uncomfortable. Any long term cruising companion of mine should be at least somewhat deaf and not too anxious should I shake a few keel bolts loose (at least on Beneteaus) while I'm sleeping and Boatie, I suspect, can sleep through pretty much anything.

I suppose cruising a catamaran and sleeping in separate hulls would solve that log sawing issue but as a man I could, of course, never be seen on such a thing.

lets see, insulted Bene owners, multihull sailors, yup, I'm finished for now. Cutter rig sailors in my next post.

Whats perhaps more important than some brief sail is the lost opportunities to meet some forum people when we have been almost side-by-side.

Just a few weeks ago BoatyBoatman (Phil) had just lobbed into St Martin when I was just lobbing out and we missed a cup 'o tea together.
A few years before I was just 40 nms from Ann and Jim but we couldnt get together... That was in Australia.
Noalex in the Med we were 8 miles apart but it was my fault, bad charts or something...
And Barnacle was in the same bloody marina in the Canary Islands but we didnt get together (it was a while ago and we didnt know each other as well).

So they are some of the lost opportunities... But many times I have bumped into forum people and we always have a bit if fun.

Indeed in the next week or so I am dragging some New York folks on board to get rid of some shonky rum... Just gotta sort a date out. So if you are in the area come on and say hi. I garantee you will be safe - we wont leave the mooring

Imagine2frolic used to do a Spring Fling and Fall Ball in Green Cove Springs, Fl. We drove from Texas to attend once, and stayed a week with John and Mel on Imagine, their 46' Simpson catamaran. It was a great time, and met some other CF members that attended.

The next spring, John invited me to sail with them. I was on the boat for a month, finally making our way through the Windward Passage and down to Cartagena, Colombia. I certainly learned a lot on that trip, and made some memories that will live with me forever.

I would really need to know someone pretty well, before I'd commit to cruising any distance on their boat. It can get uncomfortable pretty quick out there unless everyone gets along really well. And that is something difficult to know beforehand. I had plenty of time to get to know i2f before we ever left the dock, and it was a pretty smooth trip for us, but I was ready to get off the boat in the end. A boat gets quite small after a while....

I'll stick to cruising with my wife. I might have been tempted to sail with the late Jon Eisberg if the opportunity had ever presented itself.
