Haha, not the healthiest food, but one I've been enjoying for many years. My body runs well on carbs, plus they last a hell of a lot longer than avocados ;-)

I'll make a fruit, veggie, and bead run the day before I leave.

The ideas I had about being a cruiser / live aboard has changed as I have learned from reading most of the posts and books I've seen recomended. I'm thankful for the cruisers forum and all the people. But the short of it? Not a wannabe anymo r but surely a gonnabe. Glad I found this forum.

Just a quick update... I just finished a major sea trial for the boat. I went looking for heavy weather and found it. It was a real confidence builder in both the boat and myself.

I haven't been advertising my plans in case they didn't work out, but with the success of the sea trial I'm ready.

I'm headed out at the end of the month to sail to Hawaii and then on to Anacortes, Wa, where I'll meet up with the admiral and the lad to spend a month or so cruising the PNW. It's been quite a ride up till this point, and I wouldn't trade a minute of it. When we first started getting serious (or when I started getting serious and the PR campaign began) my focus was on the destination. After some years of coastal cruising and refitting, I've come to realize that it's more the journey. Along the way we've spent more time together as a family than just about anyone we know.

So while I'm still a wannabe passage maker (hopefully not for much longer), I've gotten more out of this so far than I'd even dared to dream back then. I'm not sure where I stand with the wannabe card, but wherever that is I'll gladly claim it.

I think some people like to just "try on" a lifestyle the way they try on garments in a store. They talk and ask questions, and make great plans, until they tire of that idea and move on to the next fantasy, never actually doing any of them.

Then too, newcomers notice pretty quickly that there are one set of rules for old timers and a different set for new arrivals. For example, this thread has wandered from wannabes to food and all over the place without being tossed into the off subject bin. I have seen newbies threads hit the bin for far more minor infractions.

Personally, I just make a plan and do it. I don't require any sort of approval or validation. These forums are great for tech information and area specific advise, and I have benefitted greatly from searching out answers here. The majority of posters here are kind and helpful. But I prefer cruising to typing about cruising on a computer. Having started with IBM in 1968, I have had more computer time than I would ever seek for pleasure.

My guess is that they got tired of the "Mooring Field" & "Anchor" threads, and eventually moved on. But I don't see why you'd call them "wannabees", just because they finally realized that living in a sardine can was not for them.

I agree with this. I've found that forums contain mostly us wannabes. Real sailors are out sailing. Still it's fun to talk about it with other wannabes.
