I don't disagree with you, companies should be more honest but those days are long gone. Like you I'm happy when they get caught but most don't get caught and many that do still get away with it. I'm not blaming the victim, my point is these days you really have to do your homework and if you've done your very best due diligence and something still goes wrong, well you've done your best but just don't read the marketing information and believe it as there is way more to it than that. We can't depend on many of these companies to look after our best interests. I know this family went through a very bad experience and it's a shame they may lose their boat, there are no guarantee's in life. Sorry if I come across as not caring.

Geez.

I wish you guys would stop the b.s. about the boat you know ABSOLUTELY nothing about, nor about the circumstances, and just give a hand finding it.

Very true. Car manufacturers are liable when the failure of any flawed component leads to a life threatening situation. With cars I believe tire manufacturers carry their own liability. Its seems that boats are not held to quite the same standard.

When you go to a new car dealer and buy a car, most people assume it is safe for its intended use.

If the rudder of an airplane were to consistently come apart after x hours there would be an issue.

Mark
I think we are just trying to keep the thread bumped and commenting on crappy boat manufacturing...

At least we know now that Hanse used a batch of questionable Polnish rudders in their poducts. This is, you call it b.s., a warning for Hanse owners with these rudders.

Dear CF. It is a bit off track but a couple of hours ago a good mate was the first to ride a bicycle to the South pole. I give good respect. Please CF folk don't sit in your winter homes and make forum hassles. Lets celebrate sail to and then onward to antarctic polar shelf with big wheel bike to the south pole. Please search Keith Tuffley and Eric Larsen. This is pre news.
Please don't give me sailing BS while sitting at home. A

Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados

Hi all CF. I do know how to dance with a drogue to stear a bigger sail vessel under lost control. It is difficult and awful, but very possible. Please don't mess with this well intention advice. Best wishes all CF folks. A

Would be great if someone started a new thread about how to jury rig an emergency rudder. Didn't check if there was one already tho. I'm sure much interest after this thread..

Meanwhile, I urge the OP or anyone from his team to save screenshots of all those Hanse delaminated rudder threads spanning many years back already, for potential evidence in a court case.
Seems some of those stories are on forum managed by Hanse so who knows they may just disappear some day soon... Just saying. .

SO

Can anyone involved in the physical search give any details?
