St Augustine inlet

Hi all, I'm arriving at the St Augustine inlet this afternoon from Charleston, an incoming tide, no swell. I've never been thru the inlet any recent information would be great, thanks.

Came through just under two weeks ago. There are several buoys in place and if you follow them you'll be fine. There will probably be breakers either side of you but the channel is ok.

We had never done it before and had little information. Fortunately we followed a 120 ft motor yacht in which was transmitting AIS. I was able to use that to verify that the buoy positions were good.

Thanks for the WP's I loaded them and hope to be at a mooring before happy hour at Pizalley's. It's always great to have local info, again thanks.

Mark's info looks good. The channel was recently dredged. Just follow the markers and you'll be fine.

The beer is not the best. You're better off in the brew pub right on the corner (King St.) when you get out of the marina. Good fish and chips, burgers and beer. If you prefer wine take a tour of the San Sebastian winery. Not the best wine but a good way to spend a couple of hours, and there is a tasting after the tour.

In case of entering the inlet at night: Please be aware that the intracoastal marker lights #59 and #60 are visible from the vicinity of inlet marker #4 and creates some confusion. Better use the posted coordinates.

The inlet is actually fairly easy but pay close attention once inside, making a mistake as to which markers are which will put you in some very shallow waters and the currents are pretty strong so don't let that sweep you out of the channel. Chuck
