Re: Message In A Bottle: Litter?

There are heaps of votes and a pretty clear winner on the poll.

This is a discussion forum - but if you don't like that aspect no one is forcing you to read it or take part

Haha, he prefers to probably why he started this thread after reading the thread that started his poll. Jammer, you seriously didn't think a discussion would happen on this forum?

It's still not litter smj, and no the mob didn't sponsor this message

All things in moderation. One every now and then for a kid or someone who's never been sailing? Have at it.

A cruise ship allowing every passenger to toss one off at the same time - nah.

It seems that they have voted. But just not the way that you wanted them to perhaps.

Re: Message In A Bottle: Litter?

Actually, I'm using the results of this poll in another place. I don't care how they vote, I just wish they'd be quieter about it.

And no, several of them can't condense their verbiage down to a simple yes or no.

Why do you wish we would be quieter about it?

You don't have to read it...

I guess that you can wish all you like J. But if you want peace and quiet, don't start threads that will obviously get strong and polarised opinions. It's not like it was all so unexpected.

Re: Message In A Bottle: Litter?

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone and blessed are the righteous for they shall be a PITA to all who try to live a life rather than suffer one...

It's still not litter. It is surface mail and I am sticking to that.

If one has never, ever littered then bless you. If one has never advertently or inadvertently broken a law then you are the only one who gets to preach. Everyone else oughtta check for nose bleeds way up there on your high horses.

No jay walking, no speeding, illegally parked, overstayed a meter. Never flown or not flown the right ball, cone flag or symbol from the right, wrong or no halyard?

No one likes litter, no one wants to see the sea full of plastic and everyone has a responsibility to manage themselves and their footprint on this earth. I look around and I have a pretty small footprint. I have neveer thrown a bottle in the ocean but I have the romance and soul to understand that finding one is pretty darn cool.

Re: Message In A Bottle: Litter?

What difference does the message inside make? Throwing a bottle overboard is obviously littering.

That is disgusting. Are people emptying their holding tanks too close to shore? Are they using a toilet paper that isn't marine-grade designed to dissolve as quickly as possible?

I have never, ever (to my knowledge) littered. There is no excuse for it.

Re: Message In A Bottle: Litter?

What about every cruiser that wants to send a message in a bottle agrees to collect 10x (or lets be tough and make it 100x) the equivalent amount of rubbish that is on the shore line from an out of the way (therefore without any formal rubbish collection system) place they visit. With a bit of luck it can even become a habit. I am often carrying our rubbish ashore and collecting a little bit extra as I walk along the beach is no big deal.

Clean up the world one message at time

I have never sent a message in a bottle BTW, but I know a few a cruisers that have. I think we getting worked up over nothing.
