Great offshore boats if well looked after. We cruised a T 44 for thousands of miles and several years throughout the South Pacific and West Coast, great sailor especially with the breeze forward of the beam. There were only 7 -T 44 built, cored hull and a bigger rig but basically the same hull as the 41 and 43. Much deeper draft as well.

Your HR35 is awesome. More pics please, especially the inside. Got a 33, just wondering what the differences are.

Congratulations on your classic plastic. This is my favorite place here.

Re: Got a plastic classic?

Wow, very nicely done. My 33 is in box stock trim, I can see eventually achieving what you have created. Nicely done.

Thank you for sharing your pictures.

Well, I can't really tell who the most recent social group members are, but I see the number jumped up so whoever you are, great! And why not make yourself known by posting a greeting and a shot of your boat or the classic you are dreaming of?

Re: Got a plastic classic?

I think a definition is in order here. Would a classic be one which ended production X years ago?... for example stopped being produced 25 years ago? For example the Contest 36s I own had a production run from 1984 - 1994 (began 32 yrs ago ending 22 years ago). Perhaps this is not old enough to be a *classic*?

Don????

UHHHH, ok, I'm stumped.. I think it's any boat that most folks call "old" and that I think is cool!

Originally I was thinking of the pre-70s, CCA rules boats, but there are some boats so well designed and built that are "old" that they deserve to be in here too I would say, so if she's a classic to you, she belongs here!

Re: Got a plastic classic?

Shiva is neither old nor new... so I suppose she's not a classic! Definitely doesn't look like the boat designs post 2000.

Re: Got a plastic classic?

I have a 1968 Yankee Dolphin 24, when they were still built with lots of teak trim. I really ought to spend more time on the teak instead of sailing...

A couple of pictures (both yanked from the boat's page on the dolphin24 website
http://dolphin24.com/Amaya.html ).

a good explanation of rating rules written by Ted Brewer:

Good Old Boat - No feasr mast stepping article

FWIW my take is that the CCA rule penalized waterline length so we had boats with long lengths on deck relative to the waterline length as measured at the dock, so that as the boats heeled, the "waterline length" grew, and therefore speed was greater than the "waterline length" at rest would indicate. Also as i understand it, the sail area of the mizzen was not counted or was undercounted so there were lots of yawls, also to beat the rating rule. In order to decrease the wetted surface, the rudder post was moved farther and farther forward and the keel cutaway more and more aft, so we have designs that are "fin keelers" with attached rudders. This ended when the Cal 40 appeared with a spade rudder and fin keel. The growth of the IOR rule ended the era of the CCA rule in yacht racing.
