Insurance for German flagged boat in US/Caribbean

Hello,

I am planing to buy a Beneteau 343 from 2008 in US waters and sail the US east coast and Caribbean. I am German citizen and resident and plan to register/flag the yacht in Germany.

But German boat insurances seem not to be keen to insure a boat, that is sailed in the US and Caribbean only.

I try to register with US insurance companies, but their quote forms are limited to US residents only (because they require to enter a US state and zip code, which I obviously don't have).

Can you propose insurance companies, that are willing to insure my planed boat with hull and liability insurance?

Thanks!

Best regards,
Henno

Re: Insurance for German flagged boat in US/Caribbean

We had a Canadian-flagged boat and insured with IMIS in the Annapolis area. The only requirement was that we had to have a US address for mailing purposes - they realized that we were not US residents. We used the address of friends in South Carolina. The company is well-regarded but we had no claims over ten years.

We bought the boat in the Caribbean from a German owner and registered it in Poland, the Topsail Insurance from UK had no problem insuring it and in researching the subject we found out people are generally very happy with their service.

I would second asking IMIS, they may have the best reputation of any US insurance brokerage. They are professionals.
You can use a US remailing service, like St. Brendan's Isle (SBI) in Florida as a mailing address for most purposes. IMIS will recognize the name and let you know.

Check out Topsail, UK. They are familiar with Europeans and offshore areas too. I have my coverage there for some years.
