How Much Did You Pay, or Are Willing to Pay, for Your Cruising Vessel ?

Was reading one of those 'how much" threads and it got me to wondering who is really on the site. So how much did you pay, or are planning on paying, for you cruising boat (mono/multi/power/whatever).

My 27' was $1000. I've spent around another $1000 in materials (plywood, rope, plumbing parts, wiring, etc.) and every weekend since July 2009 putting labor in on it. Some of that could have been saved had we forgone attempting to ressurect the dead motor and just decided to replace it in the beginning. I've just invested another $2500 in a salvage motor and a new Kubota to outfit with the salvaged motors marinized parts.

Add in $214 a month in marina fees and $80 a year in liability insurance.

However, I'm just a weekend cruiser.

we sold our house to finance our dream there was no other option for us we still have the boat but we are also home owners again but with a bigger morgage this time ! we lived onboard for 2.5 years and we loved every minute but an accident at work ended the boat dream for a while,but we hope to still get out there one day ! btw we bought the unfinished boat for $28,000 and spent another $60.000+ fitting out ,but as we all know this last figure never stops increasing !

my place is on the market and will sell for the $300-310K range. I have 94% equity in it since I've lived here all my life and now will unload everything to go pursue some diving and fun before the infamous 'retirement home' catches up to me (us). I'm planning on about $175K for the cat and then will stockpile and invest (very liquid) the balance to live on and cruise on.
I will certainly work along the way since my current employer would rather me work from the boat via VHF and interent and skype than loose me completely. (I Think they are hoping I'll get tired of sailing and living in some remote bay somewhere just diving and loving life and come back to the plant.) So... a little income along the way wont hurt anything either.
I guess I'm better off than some. I figured I could get a vessel in pretty good shape for that price and not have to dump a bunch more into. Maybe I'm wrong but will certainly have fun finding out.

I'm looking into buying a cruiser right now. My price range is closer to $5000. While I know my budget is on the extremely low end, I'm surprised price ranges for $10k -$20k or $20k - $50k were not included in the poll.

11 years ago we bought a 16 year old Hunter 34 in very good basic condition for 25K. Put about 15K in upgrades into her (watermaker, AGMs, solar panels, wind generator, smart charger, and arch/davits were the biggies) and went cruising in the Bahamas/Caribbean for 2 1/2 years. 6 years after we bought her, we sold her for 33K.

We have about $150k invested in our 20-year-old cruiser, and have been looking at replacements that cost anywhere from 5x to 10x as much (yikes!). In the process of investing in a substantial refit and upgrade, and then will look at the replacement boat in 3-5 yrs. Can't say we're on the "cost-effective" end of the spectrum, but then, when talking about something as emotionally charged as a lifetime dream, who is? Whoever ends up buying our boat in the end will get a super deal.....the Admiral wants a catamaran in the worst way, and how can I deny her?......

Mono sail boat. I spent 82,000 4 months ago and have put 12,000 more in. I'm living aboard and cruising British Columbia waters. I'm not sure where I'm going with it or my life - just figuring it out as I go.

We're in South Florida. moved here for many reasons, prominent among which bein a passion for sailing. In the next few days, we're planning to move the boat to Miami Beach in direct view of the Atlantic. Sure wish there was someone who was willing to help with the 80-or-so-mile daysail to the marina. the boat's tough to singleand without an autopilot and Mrs. Spammy is driving the truck there for land transportation home......The Florida Keys and Bahamas beckon.....

and to keep it on topic, i paid 5k for my boat, have since put in close to 10k, more or less built the interior from scratch, rewired the boat, solar panel, new (rebuilt) seacocks, new hoses, recored half the deck... should blow some more g's this summer, projects include fiberglass water (big) and holding tank (20 gals), finish recoring deck, fiberglass chain plates, pull rig and go synthetic, and i will be pulling the 3gm30f out in the coming weeks to begin the teardown and rebuild...

after that its odds and ends but i figure realisticly close to 40k before i sail off into the sunset
