How long do I have before I pay vat on new boat?

I was wondering how long I have from the time i take delivery of a new boat built in France before they want to charge me VAT.
Does the 18 month rule apply or is it less in my case?

The boat is US documented

I left france & have the boat in Spain now and might not get to Gibralta for 3-4 months , (unless I have to)
