Boat Insurance in Caribbean and SE FL ?

We plan to sail from South Florida to Bahamas, Thorny Path through the VI's, dip into South America, Panama Canal, up Mexican coast to Southern California during 1 or 2 yeas of travel. Can I find an insurance company crazy enough to cover me? We need coverage for catastrophes only. Hurricanes and running aground. Or the possible whale landing on the deck.

We've got our catamaran covered through Markel American; the insurance agency is IMIS (International Marine Insurance Services) in Grasonville, Maryland. We've sailed the boat in the USA, Bahamas, Caribbean and the Mediterranean w/that coverage. I'd also recommend you contact Jack Martin's insurance agency & request a quote (website is JackMartin.com). They represent numerous quality insurance companies. We dealt with Morgan Wells of that agency.

International Marine Insurance Services for I.M.I.S. Most all are really only "brokers" that will arrange coverage for your boat and circumstances with the few insurance companies that will insure cruising boats offshore.
- - Are you buying a boat in the USA, as you list yourself as being in Bremen, Germany or are you stationed there in the US military? If you are European, then I am sure there are brokers in Europe that can arrange the same types of coverage and add in US medical insurance coverage.
- - If you are US citizen, then a home/auto outfit like USAA can set you up with boat insurance at very attractive rates. But if you are going to transit Central America and Mexico, for sure, you would need supplemental insurance for that portion of the trip. For doing the Caribbean "circle circuit" then I.M.I.S. and their "Jackline" policy is about as good as you can get for your needs.

You could try this guy, he sold me my policy and I'm smack-dab in the middle of hurricane alley.
