Re: A Better Outboard Engine Bracket

A picture of what you have might help. Perhaps we can brainstorm a spring attachment to help you.

Re: A Better Outboard Engine Bracket

I guess another advantage of a small rigid dinghy is that our 30lb (full with fuel) 2.3hp Honda is easy to one arm up and down.

How about a bungee cord attached to the topping lift.

Re: A Better Outboard Engine Bracket

It's a 9.9 nissan and its on my sailboat, not my dinghy. I got it figured out for now until i buy a new bracket. I'm going to buy a new yamaha outboard so when i do, i'll switch out the bracket as well....for now the rope thru the release lever and lifting by pulling the rope with two hands works...i just couldnt lift it holding one hand on the release and one hand pulling up the motor

Oh and btw.....one of the guys at the marina couldn't lift it either so its not just me! Lol

Re: A Better Outboard Engine Bracket

This is what I used on an old sailboat for a 10 hp 4-stroke motor. They come in different weight classes so the springs help with the lift. It also mounts on most angles of the transom. STAINLESS STEEL AUXILIARY OUTBOARD MOTOR BRACKETS FOR 2-STROKE MOTORS - Garelick Eez-In and 4-stroke too.

I basically have this bracket, but it's made by Panther. ($170.00 I believe it was) It will adjust to your stern's angle. I bought the one for the 2 stroke since it was rated for like 115lbs and a 20hp 2 stroke motor. It was half the price of the 4 stroke model. My engine weights 60 lbs.

http://www.jmsonline.net/panther-mar...hp-550020a.htm

I was also going to recommend a smaller outboard since they are so much stronger than back in the day. I have a 5hp 4 stroke Mercury on my 6,600 lb Bristol 27, and it works fine. I used it one time going into 3-4' waves against an 15-18 knot wind. Had to put it all the way down though. It also has an overrev governor in case it does pop out. Cost was $1540.00 w/5 year warranty. (Shop Outboards )
