What is a good shoe for sailing ?

Dubarrys's for me, expensive yes, but can't be beaten in the non slip department.

Those son-r bungees are what I have. I never checked, I just saw them for1/2 off at WM and said what the heck. The only thing I don't like is that the edges of the soles are too rounded. I would prefer a wider and more sharply defined corner on the sides. It's to easy to roll your ankle when things get crazy.

exactly why i wear bare feet--so i can feel what i have gotten wrapped around my ankles and under feet when stuff hits fans...and is easier to move an unshod foot than a shod foot.

I used to go with bare feet, but here in the Med, the teak decks get way hot. I don't like shoes but now use the Vibram "toe shoes" like "Tamicantana" shows in pic no. 2. They make ones with stippled soles and grip really well. The toes are protected against stubbing by the up turned sole. they take about a day to get used to them, but after that they are really comfortable. You know your wearing something on your feet, but not like shoes. Wife calls them my "monkey feet"!

My two current favorites are the Merrel Barefoot Water Current Glove and the Sperry Topsider Billfish. The Sperry SeaRacer GripX3's are also excellent if you're looking for something sporty.

With sneakers, you can wear them on the boat and around town. With boat shoes, you're not exactly going to walk a few miles through the jungle in them. So you end up with yet another pair of shoes of which they take up a ton of space.

I have a pair and they hurt my feet. They are also not as flexible as needed to climb around in. But you may find they agree with your needs. Good luck

I paid up for a pair of SLAM Code 3's because the reviews said they had incredible grip, even on wet decks.

My experience has been they grip well but not 100% when heeling over with a wet deck during a race.

Next time I will probably save some money and just get a pair of Sperry's because I'm not sure any shoe is all that great when racing in wet conditions. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Buga Sperry's.... paid $180 for a pair in Palm Beach last year... didn't grip dry teak decks and rotted out in 6 months...
9 euro Chinese plimsolls from Primark do better...

If your up north how can you beat a good pair of american made extra tuffs?? My south of 50 north is limited but let those dogs breathe, go barefoot.
