water hose and drinking water

I bought an expandable water hose at the boat show">Annapolis Boat Show only to read the inserted material that it is not to be used as a hose to use for drinking water. Does any one know if there is a true hazard and what hazard there is?

I have been looking at those because our expensive lay flat hose lasted all of two minutes before making lots of little fountains down the pontoon

Just like a "non-certified for drinking water" pvc hose, it can grow bacteria or degrade in the outdoors so they warn against it. For example, the xhose has this warning:

I sure drank from a lot of regular garden hoses as a kid so not sure how big of a health danger it is but more of a chemical exposure thing.

as long as you flush the hose first you will be fine, the water isn't gong to pickup something bad enough to matter in the time it flows though the hose when filling your tank

the hose on the dock I bet isn't approved for drinking either

just read an article in a german magazine that here in Germany hoses for drinking water are tested of f.e. chloride, DOC

The material will be stored in a bassin for about 6 month and checked for incrustation.
Fouling matters ( viruses and bacterias) are great risk for health.

Hoses certified for use with potable water are readily available. In the US they are generally white, often with a blue stripe.

I clean mine with bleach once a year.

We've been using one for about a year now, and we don't taste any difference. We put the hose away in a bag protected from the sun after each use. Before each use, we allow the water to run through it for a few minutes before filling our tanks.

Thanks for the comments. I doubt filtering would make me feel better. I doubt chemicals filtered out. Does anyone know the real problem? Is it an identified chemical or just that they have not gone to the trouble of a certifying process for potable water. I am inclined to us it but I do not want to be ignorant.

Onl;y use a white hose recomend for drinking water. I been usingthe same old hose for 10+ years to refill the tanks every week. I beleived Lows and Home sell them.
