Timely Warning around Carbon Monoxide

After a CO scare while working on my small cottage, I did install a co detector, but purchased one that has a 10 year lifespan with an integral, non-changeable battery. For 35 bucks, I can forget it for ten years, then it beeps every minute or so for a couple weeks when it needs replacing. Cheap insurance...

Here's the problem: our hemoglobin has an affinity with CO. It would rather bond with CO than O2. If there's CO in the air, your hemoglobin will grab onto it and hold onto it for a very long time. This, in turn, limits your intake of oxygen.

Of course, this is only a problem for cruisers who run on hemoglobin.

I keep a bottle of it in the cabinet,right next to the rum.
If your burning any kind of fuel in an enclosed space why wouldn't you have a detecter?

I believe the Canaries were used to detect methane gas.
Having rice and bean night once a week became quite the sad event.

Both Propane & Diesel engines run with low CO emissions when they are tuned correctly & everything is working as it should. This one reason is why Propane powered forklifts are used extensively in indoor warehouses & Diesel forklifts are sometimes used in mine shafts. Either can put out lots of bad exhaust fumes when they are not tuned correctly. Gasoline powered engines put out a lot of CO no matter how well they are tuned.

Another thing to be careful of is gas stoves or heaters in boats you must have good ventilation.Or you will get very sleepy.
