Re: Free Routing Software

Thanks maitai...

The next update of qtVlm will give us all the information we need.
(Apart from the tidal stream element which I believe is under development)

I liked your compass rose so much I just had to have one in OCPN as well

Re: Free Routing Software

Ok..."c" not "C" works. "l" places a "+" in the redbox associated with the boat. "L" does nothing. Shift right click brings up a menu native to the app. Running Ubuntu 12.04.

Re: Free Routing Software

Ok, I prefer that

For the polar to be shown, you need of course to have a polar loaded (boat->setting), and a grib. The size of the polar is either fixed or based on the reckoning length (default and best), so you need to put a value in the reckoning field. 12 or 24 vacations should do it (meaning 1h or 2h, since a vacation is 5mn).

And my bad, it is not shift-rightClick to move your boat or a POI, but shift-leftClick

RUN YOUR LAPTOP FROM THE COCKPIT WITH YOUR SMARTPHONE

maitai..

Found and installed a great Android app. which enables you to operate your laptop remotely from the cockpit with your Android smartphone.

Quick initiation from your smartphone and the laptop screen is duplicated on your phone, accepting ALL commands. Zoom via finger pinch etc.

Keep your laptop safely below connected to your local Wi-Fi network and use your smartphone in the cockpit to access EVERYTHING on your laptop.

Not sure yet,but I think you can also control your PC/laptop remotely over the internet as well. The name of the app is "Splashtop".

Great app. at $ 9.99

If you try with the latest from SF (rev #1340), make install should now do it all. If maps are not present it should ask you to d/l them at the first run.

Re: Free Routing Software

The latest beta version of the route optimizing software is now getting very accurate and also include the calculation of Tidalstreams in the route optimizing equation.

The attached screendump shows the optimized route and also all the data values for EACH waypoint.

A pity we can not use the Route Manager with the copy/pasted optimized route/track data from qtVlm for route planning prior to departure, showing ALL the available wind/tidal data for each waypoint,a very valuable feature indeed. You can however obtain all the info through the Waypoint/properties/description box as mentioned above.

Re: Free Routing Software

Pavel (aka Nohal) was kind enough to translate qtVlm labels in Czech, so the next release will support this language too. Many thanks again for that.

If anyone wants to translate qtVlm in other language, or improve our admitively poor english translation, please let us know

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

Hello,

qtVlm 3.3.0 has been released.

You can find the windows version here: QtVlm Download, the build for mac/OS will follow soon.

The main changes concerning real-boat usage are:

"Currents-gribs" are now supported. If available currents information is used in routing and route modules. Note that you can either load a grib containing winds and currents data, of load a secondary grib containing only currents data.

The installation process for windows has been improved. Now the installator will automatically choose between 32bits and 64bits installation, and will download the necessary dlls if needed. qtVlm will detect if maps are missing and will propose either to download them or to use an existing folder. There is now also an install target in the makefile for linux.

Please note that the address of the repository has changed and is now https://svn.code.sf.net/p/qtvlm/code/trunk

It is no longer necessary to have TWS 0 column and TWA 0 line in polars.

The routing module has been improved, mainly concerning the rounding of obstacles (islands, capes, etc)

Czech langage is now supported (thanks Pavel)

There are various other changes concerning mainly VLM mode, plus as usual many small bug fixes and such small improvements

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

New installation on Win7 64bit report: Not 100%...

Downloaded installer, and ran it. It downloads dlls, works OK.
Start program, define a new real boat.
Maps download starts, runs to 100% then comes up with Form saying "Maps are missing", selections to download or select folder.

C:\Program Files\qtVlm\maps folder is empty. Don't know where the 101.7 MBytes that were just downloaded went???

I exit the program, restart it. Still no maps, and the real boat I had defined is gone.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

The default properties security setting after installation does not allow you to modify (read: safe) anything. So change this for the file C:/program files/qtVlm to full control.
The downloaded maps are saved in a temp file c:/ users/ username/application data/local/temp/qtVlmMaps.zip. Unzip this file and move the content to c:/program files/qtVlm/maps.

It is still necessary to have TWS 0 column and TWA 0 line in polars, otherwise the program crashes.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

maitai..

Thanks for the new version of qtVlm.
Initially, the install asks for a map directory. Does it mean it will install ALL the .kap
type maps in that directory? The green download indicator started at 92% and remained there?

Then the installer started to install 101MB of qtvlmmaps.zip ?
Still loading,slowly....

Can you please explain..

Tore
