Active Captain on I Pad
I've been using Active Captain on a PC but now have an I Pad 2 for the boat. What are the best charts to buy so I get the same display as on a PC?
Thanks
Allan

I have both Garmin and Navionics on the IPad, I prefer Garmin, but both I believe have AC integrated

Actually now that I looked, AC is a stand alone also on the IPad, you don't have to buy anything

I Git the Garmin app to use for Active Captain on my IPad. I also, have the stand alone IPad Active Captain app, but still like Garmin better.

Agreed, the Active Captain app is not much too look at and a pain to use. But the integration into Garmin's Blue Chart is really well laid out.

It's available on iPad now? That would be great news - last time I checked it wasn't because it required Flash but maybe they've fixed that. I'll have to take a look.

AC is not integrated into Navionics.

Re: Active Captain on I Pad
Love the Garmin app but if it uses Active Captain data, you would never know it. The "community edits" are a sad implementation.
I use an old version of "navimatics charts and tides" that I don't think you can buy. It's implementation of Active Captain data is excellent, pretty much like the website.
Finding a good app for Active Captain data is challenging. Active Captain appears to be More interested in eBoatCards these days.

AC may not be in Navionics, to be truthful I haven't really used it, I use the Garmin a lot though, and it definitely has AC in it.

Re: Active Captain on I Pad
There may be confusion in terminology - something the software industry seems to encourage but if ActiveCaptain as a standalone is available for iOS I'm not able to find it.
There's something called ActiveCaptain Locations which seems to be vaguely related, and I don't know anything about other iPad apps that may integrate with ActiveCaptain.
But if I'm wrong and it really is available for iPad, could someone please tell me how to find it?
Tx.

Re: Active Captain on I Pad
Don't bother - answered my own question. According to the website it's still not supported on anything that doesn't use Flash (i.e. any iOS device), so they recommend that you install a compatible app that uses their data.
My misunderstanding, got excited for nothing. I have a personal animosity towards Flash (just because it's obsolete and a security risk) so will continue with my workarounds.

Re: Active Captain on I Pad
You need to go with what AC call "companion app".
Those are 3rd party app that use AC database and present it to you in a user friendly way.
Usually, the app download and cache the database so that it can work off line.
Companion app are listed in AC web site:
- SEAiq
- Skipper
- plenty others.
I use both of those one, with good success.

Re: Active Captain on I Pad
Do I need to buy a chart package and if so which charts do you use?
Thanks
