Re: 12V LCD that works with iPhone?

Might want to consider some of the other options available - this looks like it would stand up to the dangers of electronics on a boat

Re: 12V LCD that works with iPhone?

I use an iPad. I don't worry at all about a waterproof case, but it stays below. Everything important is backed up both to my MacBook Air and to iCloud so if it ever goes for a swim, I have all the data. I agree with the posters above that an iPad is exactly what the OP needs.

These are the items you need .
1/ Ipad in waterproof case
2/ Bad elf data logger (provides bluetooth gps to your ipad)
3/ Inavx app (download of itunes $50)
4/ x/traverse navionics charts (about $50 each some are free)
Now you have a mobile chartplotter for under $1000

Water "resistant" is not waterproof. I would not use that on deck underway. I got crap at the Apple store because my iPhone had salt water corrosion without ever getting wet. It stays in a dry bag when underway, but i use it at anchor or docked. The Apple "genius" asked me "do you spend a lot of time by the ocean." Like it was a crime. I answered "Seriously? You know we are in San Francisco right? Surrounded by salt water on three sides? Are we ever NOT near the ocean?" They should call it the pompous dork bar not the Genius Bar.

End of rant. My feeling is: If it can't swim it has no business being on a boat!

Don't worry about the ToughPad, grind. It has been vaporware for over a year now, apparently Panasonic hasn't been able to build or ship them, unless there's been a very recent change in that status.

I liked the old one with the swiveling screen. That was tough, good for dropping but still not waterproof. If only Lifeproof had ANY customer service, we'd be all set!
