Master m I think you are advocating non stretch alternatives to anchoring a cruising boat. As suggested this is not viable for this class of boat. Maybe okay for afternoon fishing and large ass offshore fishing vessels that motor into the force.
Imagine taking a 10 ton sailboat and going head on into a dock at 10 knots. The energy being transfered is huge. Now imagine doing that repeatedly.. Same energy when anchored in a 35 knot blow but it's all in your anchor gear. That energy is going somewhere. In your scenario it's going to the anchor and the hull of the vessel. With a snubber the energy is transferred by stretch ,friction and or heat. I'm no physicist. I can get my head around the idea of force and energy. I need to understand how I best direct that energy. If you want it transferred to your deck fittings so be it.

Re: Breaking Strain

Hmmm.....Back to the original question, I would use a longer piece of chain... maybe 10 meters. The 10mm nylon will be quite stretchy and hard on the hands, but should be strong enough. If renewing, I would go to a little larger nylon.... for chafe protection and handling...
(how in the world did this become an argument over using Amsteel or cable? neither would work hauling by hand)

OMG ;-)

Now let's define 'significantly'.

"Have you been unfaithful lately?"
"Not significantly!"

At times things turn so funny here!

Re: Breaking Strain

Good effete chaps, feel well sorted on that one,
12m of 6mm chain + 12mm, 8 strand nylon = fair nights sleep in 30-35kn.
Don't won't to weight the bow to much and don't won't to pack up at night and move every time it blows abit.
