Dinghy Bottom Paint

Does dinghy RIB bottom paint work? Is it yes, no, maybe, kind of? Does it rub off easy and going just end up all area the stern when putting the dinghy on the Davies? Is it going stick to a bottom on a dinghy that has been in the water long enough to probably never going to able to really clean the surface?

Re: Dinghy Bottom Paint

We didn’t have a RIB, but we used dinghy bottom paint on our inflatable (which we no longer have). I believe it was the Petit paint.

It held up well and although we would still get slime, we didn’t get any other sea life growing on the bottom. When we deflated the dinghy and put it on the foredeck, the paint did not rub off onto our boat.

We painted it as soon as we bought it so I don’t know how well it would adhere if you couldn’t get the bottom completely clean before painting.

Re: Dinghy Bottom Paint

In the end the water is warm and nice here so I just scraped the crap off. I also noticed that the old barnacle “glue” from the last scrapping of a full coverage is coming off and getting softer and most of it I’m able to wipe off.

So I’ve done the full circle to thinking it is easier to fix than prevent.

Re: Dinghy Bottom Paint

I had a thread maybe last year about dinghy paint. The general agreement was since it rubs off on everything the dinghy rubs against the paint was more trouble than the growth.
Of course that was primarily from people that put their dinghy on the fore deck.

Re: Dinghy Bottom Paint

We have always painted our RIB. Regular bottom paint. One coat per year. Either tow it or hoist in the davits. Works perfectly.
