Resizing mainsail

UGH! I went to hank on my mainsail on my newly aquired boat and found it was all wrong!
The foot of the sail is too long for the boom and has a boltrope sewn in that is too small for the slot in my boom.
I dont know if its too tall as I havent measured that yet (snow, rain, wind, cold).

The head, tack and clew all have excellent design and the sail condition overall is excellent.

I am looking for knowledge, information, advice on whether to cut the sail to fit by a sailmaker or to have one made from scratch. I want to know a little before I go talk with a local sailmaker in Port Townsend.

AHH I think ya need to measure a few things and take the sail to a sail maker and see what he says! seems simple enough to me ??

Its not difficult, or very expensive to make the modifications.
If the sail is in good condition it should be worthwhile to recut it.
