Is an anti-torsion cable 'sewn in'?

I'm replacing the anti-torsion cable in my screecher with a thicker one. I know that the cable runs inside a luff sleeve but is it actually 'sewn in' or is it just fixed at the top and bottom. I can't imagine how it can be attached at any point between the head and tack.

Typically the cable is loose fitting inside the sleeve, however depending on the size of the eyes at each end you may have to undo some clamps etc to allow end of cable to slide through the sail. remember to pull a messenger line through when you pull old cable old in order to pull the new cable through. easier job to do ashore where you can lay sail out full length and tie the furler / tack to something solid.
