best value in blocks and such

I'm pricing out a running rigging update and the West marine catalog is thick with this stuff.

Which brand is the 'pretty good for the money' one?

I'll have to run everything back so I'll be needing a good bit of stuff.

Also, what is the deal with the blocks that look like they're made of plasticy brown wood? My guess is that if it were any good they would still be making them that way.

Check out Garhauer. This stuff is cheaper than anything at WM and is bulletproof. This is all I use now.

Just switched all the blocks on my boat to Garhauers last year. The original Lewmars were less than satisfactory.

Garhauer are very good value for money. Nevertheless, do make sure that you use the correct size / load rating for your application, as they do distort if overloaded.
