Spectra pumps surging

Hi there,
I have a refurbished Gulfstream 400 system that's working absolutely perfectly here in Mexico.

This issue I have is that it seems my two pumps have started surging.

Meaning, when they run together they seem to often be out of "phase".

Much like a dual engine airplane where the props aren't synced together and they just kind of make a wom wom wom noise.

I also noticed the pressure gauge fluctuates with the noise. Maybe 5 PSI?

Any idea if this is normal or why they aren't still synced in phase?

Thanks,
Adam

I have seen that as well. The first thing I would do is check you water supply.

If you have excluded air in your system (bleed via the bypass valve on each pump individually and together), I would suggest changing out your filter and cleaning your freshwater screen.

My installation has one pump ABOVE the other, due to space considerations, and I wonder if the pressure differential between the two pumps enhances this.

I have been following this thread, hoping someone who actually knows something would post.

Re: Spectra pumps surging

The Gulfstreams pumps will sound a bit out of phase normally. This is because of the way they are plumbed together. What is important is the pressure gauge readings and the flow meter readings. These both need to be symmetrical. If not it is an indication that something is amiss. GulfStreams are a rare bird these days and very few will work on them anymore. If yours is operating well take care of it. Some parts are not available anymore.
