Also don't use vodka or other booze as it can weaken your O rings and other rubber parts.

Also Propylene Glycol (pink potable antifreeze) causes no damaged to the membranes that the acid biocide can after repeated uses.

Left our Spectra for 2 months, no pickling, but did leave the Zane switched on. Will see shortly how that is going. Anyone else use the Zane on their Spectra?

Overs 3 decades in industrial water treatment here, so I'm piping in. Always willing to learn something, but I'd like to know where that comes from. I believe you may have pickeling and cleaning confused. Cleaning does actually shorten the life of membranes, so don't do it unnecessarily. Pickeling does not.

Yes, If not used for more than a week, flush frequently to minimize organic fouling.

Not sure about that one either.

Membranes are manufactured and then pickled for shipping to "watermaker" systems manufactures. They could be sitting in the solution for many months before being installed. 3-6 months seems like a lot of that self protection. But then, they have never been seen a service cycle, so...

I will say that I believe in going a little further than just getting a little solution out of the brine line. Membrane envelopes have lots of room for raw water or flush water to hide out on the feed side. No harm to give a little extra pickeling time/solution there.

As long as the Z-Brane is left on and working and you gave the system a good freshwater flush before you left you'll be fine.
