Nylon is ok for use INside the boat, but not on the hull because UV turns nylon into powder.

Re: Holding tank vent hole

Thanks, I was wondering if there was something peculiar about sewage gases and nylon or something.

Re: Holding tank vent hole

I cannot see your problem. Your vent hose clamps onto a hull fitting and the fumes are vented outside. Are you seriously worried that the fitting's not being sealed to the hull would permit fumes that exit the hull to leak back in through the unsealed area between the hull and the fitting? If so why? There is no suction to pull the fumes back into the boat.

No...he's concerned about water intrusion under the flange doing damage to the hull. If you've ever seen soft areas around a deck stanchion that had long needed re-bedding, you'd understand his concern.

I have one of those holding tank vent holes, but my wife kicks me out of the bed every time it vents. I'm sure many of my fellow Sailors have the same problem. It is Mother Nature. Just stay away from Butter Beans.

My (previous) holding tank vent IS nylon, but it's under the trampoline and i live in the PNW, so I'm not too worried about it.

Besides that, I now have capped the hull fitting as the ElectroScan doesn't need a vent.

If you moor close to shore put some bass wool in it to keep the mud dobbers out. wasps.

Re: Holding tank vent hole

@Cadence - I remember those from when I used to live in Tennessee...luckily we don't seem to have them up here.

@Dave22q, @peghall - Peg is right, I'm only worried about water intrusion.

Re: Holding tank vent hole

Just dab on some epoxy putty where the gelcoat use to be. Gel is not structural.
