RTV Sealant for Marine toilet

I noticed that I was getting some seepage around the valves on my Groco marine toilet. I checked the screws that fasten the bowl to the cross pipe and those on the pump valve and noticed that they had somehow worked loose. I pulled the entire assemble apart and everything else seemed OK. So now I'm thinking why not put a thin film of RTV Silicone sealant or something similar on all of these gaskets as an extra measure against leaks. Anybody tried this or can see reason not to.

Re: RTV Sealant for Marine toilet

Rtv silicone has no place on a boat. It's a horrible sealant.

Flange seals work best when using the right gasket material. Do you have some pics. If the flange is not flat then no seal will be successful.

We have raritan heads. Their joint engineering looks amateurish but they work quite well once you work out joint tension. We only use the oem seals and gaskets.

Re: RTV Sealant for Marine toilet

The problem with most of the plastic toilet parts are the joints warp and no longer seal This would be the only place I would use silicone, in an emergency .Keeping in mind it will be a PITA to remove later
Hope you have not put bleach in it and ruined the seals as I have done before
